Hey everyone, first time posting. I'm looking into getting a new computer, and I pretty much know my way around the majority of hardware, I just want to know what you guys think is the best gaming comp config nowadays without spending one months wages? This is what I have come up with...
Athlon 3000+ 64
Asus K8V800
Crucial 512mb DDR400 X2
Radeon X800pro
Maxtor 120gb sata x2 raid0
Antec True 480watt
Thanks alot guys, hope I bring something 'good' into the community as well.

yea.. i picked 2500+ just cause its the easiest cpu to turn into a 3200+. Never liked intel since my pIII.. more $$$ for not that much power..

I'd get what you had, not the 2500 or the 2.4. Get the 64 processor.

my chip puts his to shame in processor (go figure) benchmarks.. so that "not that much power" is bs... if all you do is games though, prob go with amd.. but I do more than game.. or else i'd just play xbox all day..

xbox was sweet when i got it. like playing halo2 and stuff. Recently i bought counterstrike for xbox. it was ok then i noticed the grpahics on my geforceti4200 were better than it (i have PC CS as well) so i stopped playing. One friday night, (i dont get out much, no friends....) i rented 2 games Hitman2: contracts and MAFIA. They graphics made me feel like i was playing old playstation or something like that. It was horrible. So yea until halo 2 im not touching my xbox. O yea i would like the 2.4ghz chip better just because i used to have one, and the overclocking ability is awesome for 2.4's ( i mean it was awesome until i broke a prong trying to put of the thermal grease) OOPS   . But yea i was just jokin about not having friends,

why did you take the chip out? You were putting it on or taking it off? sigh.. whatever.. 2.4c = best budget chip since 1.6a (which I had until i hosed my p4t533-c mobo... (bios)

well i took the chip out to put a different brand of artic silver compound on it. That stuff is so messy. It got everywhere. I still have some of it smeared on my mobo. Anyways, i tried to put the chip back in. But i put it in the wrong way. I didnt line up the socket 478 top right no pin, with the processor no-pin part. So i put it in wrong and i put the lever down and It jumped out of the socket like 2 feet high. Its a shame that they use every pin and no pin is like a fake pin. o well.... got my 2.8 now im happy.
