I am having trouble downloading .exe files. When I want to download instead of the dialogue box requesting open from source or download to disc I get a new web page with a blue Q in the center and the download fails. Any other file type seems to download ok.
Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.
Thanks

This is just an inkling but it may be the sight your downloading from doesnt allow .exe file downloads? SPAMOr try this:
Find what you want to download and on the link right click and go save as... and then it might work.

A Q? It sounds like quicktime. Do you have quicktime on your machine? It sounds like it is associating itself with exes. Check it out. Let us know.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.
First, yes I have quicktime installed, but I dont remember this type of problem before!!! What should I do next ??
The sight is logitech where I have downloaded an update software for my webcam. On my laptop all worked well on my PC all files except the .exe downloaded properly. If I go back and try to download I get a page with a broken Q !!!!!!!
Next steps would be appreciated.

Definately sounds like you've associated executables with Quicktime somehow. Just open my computer, and then your C drive and select View, Options or Folder Options and take a look at file types. Check and see what Quicktime is assocaited with. If you find exe in there that needs to be removed.
The only other thing I can think of would to be in Internet Explorer click on Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and click the Restore Defaults button. See if that helps at all.
Or when your at the site where you want to download the exe file right click the link and select save target as this should give you your save as dialogue box.
Good luck.

I guess its right that I have an "association problem" but I cant find it!!
I have checked Quicktime and I cant see anything strange. I did try to delete it but it says cannot delete as windows is using one of the files!! So how do I cure that?
I have tried re installing IE ...no difference.
Can anyone advise how I can find an association?
The file I was trying to download is not a link but a "go" istruction which does not allow a right click!!
Keep trying guys your help is much appreciated
