Im one of those people who for no apparent reason decides out of the blue to learn a new language. SPAMProgramming language that is.

Recently I have been doing abit of foolin around with PHP and the MySQL database and today I decided that it would be nice to learn something else while Im at it.

It was a tossup between C and Python. SPAMI really want to become a C/C++ master but after doing abit of reading about them I decided that I would get a working knowledge of Python first then tackle C.

I am actually enjoying playing around with Python alot. SPAMInfact I havent had this much fun programming since I first tryed Delphi with its easy as RAD system.

I have abit of back ground in writing PERL scripts so this has given me abit of a head start but I would REALLY recommend Python to anyone interested in getting started in programming.

Thanks for the recommendation Simo, but I have a question. SPAMIm in networking by heart but I would love to learn some programming that can be used hand in hand with administration. SPAMWhat kind of functionality can I get with Python? SPAMIs it applicable to what I want to use it for or should I just stick with my original ideal of pickin up a VB book? (which Ill probably do anyway for certs)

Python is ALOT more versitile than VB for afew reasons, and for your purpose (networking) I think a big one would have to be that is full cross platform.

Unlike VB it is also free (www.python.org) and open source, and there are alot of modules to add to its functionality.

However one obstical that may or may not be an issue is that you have to write your own GUI, its not drag or drop like Delphi or VB's.

If you can get over this though it is a very versitile language.

dear simo, do you know any python forum ? I've just written a simple program and I want to get comments. But most likely people around me don't even know what is 'python' or anything about it.
