| Two monks were bathing in a stream. A scorpion approached the edge to drink and fell in. The first monk scooped him up and set him on the bank. The scorpion stung him, then approached the edge again, and fell in again. Once more the monk rescued him and once more the scorpion stung him. The second monk turned to first, asking, "Why do you continue to rescue the scorpion when you know it is his nature to sting?" "Because," replied the first monk, "it is my nature to rescue." |
