Windows Tip: Secret Way to Close Many Apps at Once

If you give the ol' three-finger salute (Ctrl + Alt + Del), Windows 98 shows you the Close Program dialog, giving you the option to close running applications one at a time.

A secret program, the Task Manager (a holdover from Windows 3.x), shows you all your running applications and lets you close any number of them --or even all of them -- at once.

To launch the Task Manager:

1) SPAMClick on the Start button and select Run.
2) SPAMType TASKMAN in the Open box and press the enter key.
3) SPAMTo select a bunch of running applications to close, press SPAMand hold the Ctrl key, click on each of the programs you'd like to close in the Task dialog, and select End Task from the Windows menu.
4) SPAMTo close all your running applications, press and hold the Shift key, click on the first application, then the last, and select End Task from the Windows menu.
