Default Windows Tip: Secret Way to Close Many Apps at Once

Windows Tip: Secret Way to Close Many Apps at Once

If you give the ol' three-finger salute (Ctrl + Alt + Del), Windows 98 shows you the Close Program dialog, giving you the option to close running applications one at a time.

A secret program, the Task Manager (a holdover from Windows 3.x), shows you all your running applications and lets you close any number of them --or even all of them -- at once.

To launch the Task Manager:

1)  Click on the Start button and select Run.
2)  Type TASKMAN in the Open box and press the enter key.
3)  To select a bunch of running applications to close, press  and hold the Ctrl key, click on each of the programs you'd like to close in the Task dialog, and select End Task from the Windows menu.
4)  To close all your running applications, press and hold the Shift key, click on the first application, then the last, and select End Task from the Windows menu.
