Never want to see Active Desktop Recovery again? Use this fix.
Here's the story. Windows has a very nifty feature (this is not sarcasm) called Active Desktop (Vista has it's successor which goes by the name Sidebar). This provides functionality quite similiar to Mac's Widgets though it is much much older (born in 1997). Safety first: as a precaution, Windows will turn off this feature if it considers it a risk. The problem is, Windows considers too many things to be a risk, which can sometimes including logging in.
I got annoyed one day and decided to modify Windows so I'll never have to see it again. Here's how:
THE FIX
Go to %windir%\Web, which was "C:\Windows\Web" for me. Locate the file named "safemode.htt".
Right-click such file...Open With...Choose Program..."Select the program from a list"...Notepad...
Now you can see this is an HTML file, which is definately good news.
Go to the very bottom of the file. Find the following code:
Replace it with:
Click Alt, then click "f", then click "s". Close Notepad and you're done!
Basically, as soon as the Active Desktop Recovery screen loads it will fix itself.
