i really want to format but it won't let me.when i try to delete this partition and format my hardrive it says that there are temporary files needed for the installation so i can't delete it. Also if i let the time limit run out when it asks me to select to install or run it says i am missing as file system32\hal.dll.i looked and that file is in the WINDOWS folder.idk what goin on someone help me figure this crap out.

Worst come to worse, I'ld pull out a win98 startup disk, delete all partions, format for Fat32(just for good measure), then use XP to reformat NTFS, that ought to destroy and thing on there, also run fdisk/mbr instead of just fdisk, this will clear your Master boot record. Also if you have it available, PartitionMagic, could destroy everything you need to get rid of.

-Go to start -> run -> then type "msconfig"

-Click on the BOOT.INI Tab

-Check to see if both Win xp and Win xp install are listed there.

-Delete the call for the win xp install out of the boot.ini file.

That should take care of the problem for you.
