Default ASMS ERROR, HELP!!

ok, put second hand motherboard into brothers pc. Formatted HDD using NTFS and got to the installation screen when i get the error something like 'unable to find asms'...

i dont have the original cd of xp atm, i gave it to my mate (on holidays) but i do still have the original xp cd key with me. I am pretty certain this cd is fine because it works on my computer.. i used it just a few days ago.

i have only found this...

http://support.microsoft.com/default...N-US%3BQ311755

and this

http://www.netwerkin.com/cgi-bin/ult...=5;t=000100;p=
(except the links on the forum dont work/i dont know where to find isobuster etc..)

I did try different cd roms btw, but it didnt fix it...

I tried method 1 under ntfs, but it couldnt find regedit.exe so i havent got to try method 2 as the D: drive is only 8gig with 500meg free. I am also not 100% what to do with the method 1 instructions part 7-9. I was wondering maybe someone could edit that file from an xp cd and let me download it and ill reburn xp and overwrite the edited file??

Anyways its been a few days and since i have the same model motherboard but just newer version, i decided i would plug the hdd and install windows from my pc onto his hdd and put it back into his. Worked. Although the thing is i dont want to have to pull his hdd in/out all the time when formatting... i want this thing to be fixed!

Another thing is at the time when installing xp i had the old 40wire, 40pin ide cable connected to my HDD's giving me the UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME error but have now changed it and gotten rid of that error. Im not sure if this would effect the ASMS error, im just saying...

Brothers PC Specs....
CPU = XP2400+
Motherboard = Soltek SL-75FRN2-L without the raid, has onboard sound+lan
Ram = DDR 2100
HDD = 20gig ata100 + 8gig ata33
Video = Geforce2 GTS
1 CD ROM, 1 A Drive

All i have done is swap motherboards.. it use to be a MSI 745Ultra (SIS745 Chip) and thought it would be good to use this Soltek Nforce 2 Chipset... maybe i should go back to the old one???

I donno, i need help
thanks,
chris.

yea i'm thinking that if it works on the old mobo, then the new mobo's the problem...

YAY!
thx DQD, you´re my man
i found a link to the burning and iso site of xp in the newsgroup...finally it was (after 5 cds, 5 different versions of xp) a bad burn.
runs perfectly now...posting on xp
btw...for anyone who needs the info: http://vamsftwxp.conxion.com/installation.html

if you have the asms installation problem...burn your cd with winoncd as described on that site. i burnt it at 2X to be sure.
off to make it look nice now...wahey

Did you read this from that website you you posted above ^?

Have you uninstalled the drivers from the old/new mobo?
Maybe its a BIOS issue...

how so? would the bios be incompatible with xp? Anyway, like I said, try the other mobo, and then we can narrow it down from there.

The thing is, the website link dont work!

My old motherboard was fine, no problems... i did update the bios to the latest version two days ago as well. I doubt the motherboard is faulty because its working fine atm, i just really dont want to have to pull in/out the hdd each time i format.
