Microsoft Office 11 unveiled at TechXNY
Last week, at the TechXNY conference, (which yes, you guessed it, was held in New York,) Microsoft gave a glimpse of Office 11, the nex-gen office suite. The new suite will tout improved XML support, which in turn means that data can be more easily shared amongst programs. Microsoft group vice president Jeff Raikes demonstrated the new Outlook, which will have a vertically split message window instead of the curent horizontally split window. Microsoft's flagship e-mail program will have a database-type backend to store emails. SharePoint will be more tightly integrated so that it can support online meetings and track changes to documents better.
The first beta will ship later this summer, and I will post links to any public downloads. The final version should be available by next May.
