Default Port forwarding

When I have a hardware firewall what ports are good to forward for optimal security with conveinience (IE IRC Bittorrent etc)

You onle need port forwarding for application that absolutely need it to work. Port forwarding is only necessary if you need certain incoming requests to go to a specific computer, such as for VNC, FTP server, some games, etc.
