Default Paralyzed Korean Woman Walks Again

It's been promised for years, but it's just become a reality. Stem cells taken from cord blood have enabled a paralysed woman in South Korea to walk again for the first time in 20 years. The details are on the Sydney Morning Herald Site which requires registration, but can also be seen on the World Peace Herald. Too late for Christopher Reeve, but not for the thousands of new injuries worldwide each year or the millions of paralysed people from other diseases in the world.

Well, government researching for stem cells wouldn't be nearly as efficient as the private research. Plus, most of the important breakthroughs that allowed that to happen in the first place are due to American research. The thing is, I don't think it really matters either way whether the government does or not, because there are much more important things in the bio sciences to be focusing on. Stem cells are just the current bandwagon. Proteomics for example... that field can potentially allow us to mass produce stem cells and other similiar cells.
