Crucial Ballistix DDR3 1600 4GB Kit

For testing and analysis I will be using three products CPU-Z, Memtach, and Sisoftware Sandra.

cpuzCPU-Z shows the ram in all its glory including timing and current speed. Note that the DRAM frequency is 800 MHz which when multiplied by 2 will give you the actual speed of the ram which is 1600.

memtach

MemTach is one of the  more comprehensive testing sets which will test utilizing a large battery of tests.

2 Main things to take note of in this was the memset and memcpy tests which come in at a nice 7.7GB/s and 6.2GB/s respectively, this means you can pipe quite a large amount of data in a very short period of time. One thing to note when looking at other reviews is to take note of the number of sticks in the set. The larger the set usually the faster these number will be due to a higher potential bandwidth to each stick.

SiSoftware Sandra comprises a large number of tests spanning the entire system. For this review I choose to test the memory bandwidth and the memory latency both are very important when deciding on a good stick of ram.

One of the nice features of the Sisoftware Sandra suite is that it maintains a large database of other benchmark results and will compare your system to other like systems. During both the Memory bandwidth benchmark and the memory latency benchmark it was determined that several triple channel systems were likely canadates as compareable systems which is quite an achievement considering the usuall advantage a triple channel system has over that of its lesser dual channel cousins.

In the memory bandwidth test the Crucial 4GB Ballistix kit came in third place behind two triple channel sets running at the same speed, it did however hold its own which is an admirable achievement for this dual channel kit.sisoftsandra-mem-lat

In the memory latency test the Crucial 4GB Ballistix kit came in 3rd place again in the memory latency test, this position isn’t too surprising considering the competition and it is good to note that the ranking was a close one. In the speed factor benchmark portion is where this kit starts to shine the test utilizes the individual cache timing which is set fairly low on the Crucial kit and because of this it did surprisingly well beating its competitors which included some decent Corsair ram as well as some Patriot ram.
