Dell XPS 13 Review

Dell XPS 13

Pros Cons
Beautiful “infinity” display with little-to-no bezel surrounding. Temperature tends to reach upper 100s under the keyboard
Excellent battery life Web-cam location is very poorly thought out, though makes sense for the bezel-less design
Small, lightweight design surpassing that of the Macbook Air Sluggish SSD, which in today’s competitive day shouldn’t ever be a problem, but alas it is.

Introduction

As technology innovations go, battery life tries to grow without affecting the size of the laptop/notebook. Dell took the idea of an 11′ ultrabook to the next level & thinned the fat off the new Dell XPS 13. This bad-boy has the frame of an 11 inch ultrabook with a screen resolution of a 13 inch.
So we asked ourselves, does that mean the battery life is going to significantly suffer? Yet again we find out that Dell has improved upon their previous model of XPS laptops with a stunning 8-9 hour battery life of continuous video-watching, and 11-12 hours of web surfing over WIFI until the battery actually gives in.
Dell’s new XPS 13 comes in many configurations,

  • $799.99 – Intel’s 5th Generation Core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSD, Intel (R) HD Graphics 5500, 13.3-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) infinity display
  • $899.99 – Intel’s 5th Generation Core i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, 128GB SSD, Intel (R) HD Graphics 5500, 13.3-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) infinity display
  • $999.99 – Intel’s 5th Generation Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB SSD, Intel (R) HD Graphics 5500, 13.3-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) infinity display
  • $1299.99 – Intel’s 5th Generation Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB SSD, Intel (R) HD Graphics 5500, 13.3-inch QHD+ (3200 x 1800) infinity touch display.

So we can see that the lowest tier model is sporting an i3-5010U Processor (U = Ultra-low power), which has speeds of 2.10GHz. The next two are similar in every including the processor, i5-5200U Processor, but different in RAM which if you need a little more you’d pay 100$ for that extra 4GB totalling at 8GB, and since the RAM is none-upgradeable like all the other parts we recommend considering all the options prior to your purchase.
The most expensive model is the $1299.99 which has the beautiful QHD+, 3200 x 1800, infinity edge-to-edge Corning(R) Gorilla(R) Glass display. This display though very beautiful and handy on the go, reduces the battery life.
Today we will be testing out the middle-tier model with the Intel’s 5th Generation Core i5-5200U Processor with speeds of 2.7GHz, and a price tag of $899.99
