We’ve all attempted to conquer our tech problems using search engines; whether it’s related to hardware or software, this can be pesky. Here, we will go over how to solve these problems via the internet: Finding solutions to our problems, not just blindly searching. I’m going to attempt to appeal to every audience from the tech-savvy to the not-so-much. Searching is, in essence, trial and error: But I’m going to give you the tools you need to succeed.
Not all search engines are created equal
Search engines work by comparing your search field with the content of other websites, often referred to as “Meta Tags”. These tags help the engine index the website and pull it up when the user searches for these meta tags. While this sounds pretty basic, there are inner workings in play affecting the return results. So not all search engines will return the same websites when searched. Using multiple search engines will help you explore the most relevant websites.
It’s worth noting that the major search engines and most real search engine softwares (e.g. UltraSeek, Vivisimo Velocity, et al.) are pretty good at filtering common words such as interrogatives (w5+h) and articles, so it’s also feasible simply to write a question deliberately. E.g., “How much does the sun weigh?” or “How can I find government benefit programs?” Curated search engines such as Wolfram Alpha and DuckDuckGo might even be able to present an exact answer based on your choice of interrogative word and non-junk terms.
