Default Recently had issues with system freezing up

I think it might be the mobo. Several times a day the whole system just freezes. Every once in a while it wont unfreeze and I have to reboot. Could this be operating system or motherboard?

Dan,

Actually I would check the HD and RAM first. You can also go into the event viewer and check the last cause before system freeze. I have rarely seen the motherboard cause a lockup unless you have bad caps or overheating. Are you overclocked?

i've tried booting up without any peripherals, only PSU, mobo and ram stick. nothing. at first glance, do you think that the cpu fried or the motherboard died?
