Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Review

It was back in June this year that I took a look at the Hauppauge HD PVR Gaming Edition, not only did I want to have a go with the product, but I also needed something that would fit my requirements for eTeknix weekly game reviews. I needed something that could capture footage, take screenshots, that wasn’t too difficult to setup and use and of course be cost effective at the same time. I was rather happy with its performance and it earn’t our eTeknix Gamers Choice Award.

So here we are with the HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition, Hauppauge’s latest revision of their popular game capture device, along with a range of new features and functions that should keep gamers capturing their favourite gaming moments, walk-through guides and screenshots of them trolling other players to the point of insanity.

With over 20 years experience in creating devices that bring TV to your PC, Hauppauge have been leading the way with their gaming PVR’s that bring your console games video output over to your PC for video and image capture. If anyone knows how to make a good PVR device it should be Hauppauge and that is something I saw last time when I reviewed the original PVR Gaming Edition.e Hauppauge.

“Record your Xbox 360 or PS3 game play in HD. Upload and share your best games online!”

“Record from your PS3 or Xbox 360 to make video recordings of your best game play. Upload your favorite games to YouTube in HD and share them with other gamers online! Or make a high definition movie of your game play to share with your friends or use it to discuss tactics with your clan members!”

It doesn’t take long to find an uncountable number of gameplay videos on YouTube, with everything from Call of Duty to Pokemon having some kind of walkthrough, play along, gameplay footage, funny moment and more uploaded for the world to see. This is exactly the sort of task the HD PVR 2 is designed to do and much like the previous edition its perfect for people like me who review games on a weekly basis that need a way of capturing images of the latest games.

So lets take a look at what the HD PVR 2 has to offer and see how it stacks up against its predecessor.
