Huawei Nexus 6P Gold

Huawei-27

Usage:

 Huawei-16

Turning on the phone I am welcomed by the clean android boot. No carrier enforced logos or noises here. Getting signed in and started is the android marshmallow experience as I know it. I am immediately greeted by a 6.01 upgrade prompt reminding me why I love the nexus experience. After upgrading to 6.01 and installing the security patch package for January, I begin transferring my data over to the new phone. This process is measurably easier than in lollipop when you had to engage NFC to transfer. (Now it’s Bluetooth)

Once the major workload of installing is over I begin by running the camera through some side by sides with the Motorola Nexus 6. Out of the gate the picture quality is noticeably improved. The low light photography is remarkably improved. On the Nexus 6 I had turned of HDR imaging because the speed to take and process a picture made it unusable. The capture rate on the Huawei Nexus 6p doesn’t seem to even be affected by HDR. You can see from the low light photos below that the difference is huge.

The speed and responsiveness of the phone during basic use is very similar to what I am used to with my Nexus 6. I suspect I’ll see some significant differences when I start getting into some heavy usage apps.

Synthetic Benchmarks:

I ran two suites on the phones to compare the performance deltas. On the left below you’ll see the Huawei Nexus 6p and on the right are the scores for the Motorola Nexus 6.

 Huawei-33  Huawei-32

The numbers show a pretty significant increase. Particularly in the Geekbench multi-core.

Battery:

Some notes on battery. Everyone’s battery life will depend on use. I do some things to increase my battery life I turn off Ambient Display. I keep my screen set to dim after 30 seconds of inactivity. I only charge my phones with chargers that output the same volts and Amps that the manufacturer recommends. For all of my quirks (insanity), I almost never fail to get a full day’s usage out of my phones. Under use my Motorola nexus 6 would typically be between the 20% and 15% after typical day. The Huawei Nexus 6p is staying in the 40’s.
