The hard drive bracket and arrangement:

So lets take a close look at what makes the PC-90 special with the new hard drive mounting brackets.

With the left panel removed, you see what makes the PC-90 unique. You are looking at the panel where the hard drives will be mounted to.

The panels are three removable panels which allow you to mount up to six 3.5″ drives or twelve 2.5″ drives.

Shown above is the PC-90 case with the left panel removed showing the hard drive mounting plates which allow you to mount six 3.5″ drives or twelve 2.5″ drives. This is a first to have the hard drives mounted along the side of the side of the case rather than along the front of the case as it has been traditionally. This new concept brings in much more cooler air and directs to the video cards and processor without having to be obstructed by hard drives and the frame work to hold the drives, which in several cases the framework is more restrictive than the drives themselves.

Here we dropped down the hard drive mounting plates to show the back side where you can mount to the 2.5″ drives.  Here we have mounted six 3.5″ drives to the outside of the mounting plates. There is two separate panels for the cable management. The first has cable guides and the second panel is a hid-a-way panel to cover the cable management for a very clean look.

The relocating of the hard drives to the side panel does prevent one from having a window on the side panel which gives you a look inside of the case, but the high-end cases from Lian Li mostly do not have such windows. The mounting of the hard drives to the side of the case is another one of Lian Li thinking out of the box (case) and coming up with an excellent layout and they didn’t stop their. Lian Li takes this new concept the extra mile with installing cable management to assist you with routing cable and power cables in a very clean and accessible way and tops off the cable management with a panel which then secures the cables in-place and gives a very clean look once the side panel is removed.

The backside of the hard drive brackets shown above is where the set of six available 2.5″ drives.  With the hard drive mounting brackets removed, there is plenty of space inside the case to easily install the motherboard.

Since the hard drives are mounted to the side of the case, rather than in the front of the case as in the past there is plenty of room in the case to install the motherboard and not have to worry about the possibility of cutting your knuckles on a hard drive cage.  Now the only draw back if only very little is since the hard drives are now located along the left side of the case, this does not allow for the extremely large CPU heat sinks, but there is so much more air flow through the case than normal that a large heat sink is just wasted any way. Of course if you feel you need better cooling than any heat sink that will fit the space, then the PC-90 does have the ports on the back of the case for water cooling.
