M-Edge Guardian Kindle Case

Testing:

There is really only one way to test this product, and that’s to dive in and try and read with it. M-Edge recommends doing a submersion test for 5 minutes before installing your Kindle. This help ensure you don’t find out you had a defective unit after it’s too late. The one big downside of the design is that you can’t access the power switch when the device is installed, so if you take too long on a page and the device goes to screen saver, you have to get out of the water, dry off, open it up, and turn it back on again. I also found the joystick a little difficult to use, but this isn’t really that important once you’ve already started reading. The next page and previous page buttons work flawlessly, which is the most important part.

In addition to protecting your Kindle from water, the polycarbonate plastic the device is made of, should allow it to take a bit of a beating. I wouldn’t recommend bludgeoning it too hard though, as there many not be enough internal cushioning to protect against really heavy blows.

Conclusion:

The device does what it advertises, and comes in 3 fun colors. It’s pretty comfortable to hold and will protect your Kindle from water up to 1 meter deep (a little over 3 feet for those on the imperial system) and float if you drop it, however at a price point of about $80, it’s a bit of a tough sell as a must have Kindle accessory. If you absolutely love reading out by the water, then it’s a great purchase, otherwise you can probably live without it.
