MegaCon 2011 Orlando

A MEGA Show for Anime, Scifi, Film, Comic Book, and TV Show Fans:

Star Wars, Star Trek, and Anime Oh My! There was definitely something for everyone at this years MegaCon show which turned out to be huge. Hallways and corridors were jam packed with costumed hero’s, villains, and characters from just about every story ever told. Inside the convention hall was packed even tighter as attendees crammed down lanes searching for their favorite fan gear. At the back of the hall were the invited media guests and celebrities which drew an amazing amount of attention and caused lines that wrapped around the hall. Everyone wanted a photo with the stars present.

To one side of the hall we found an amazing display of home made R2D2’s recreated in amazing detail and some fully functional. These amazing reproductions were the work of several builders with some the handywork of a father and his sons. One of the models on display represented over $9000 invested and was truely a wonder to behold. I personally believe there’s some profit to be made in building and selling these models to Star War’s fans with the cash to afford such a luxury.

Celebrity Guests:

There were plenty of celebrity stars on hand for this years MegaCon though two names eclipsed the rest of the lineup with one star in particular receiving lots of attention and causing long lines just to get a look. I will give you a hint: Who just turned 80, looks 60, and is the Universe’s equivalent of  Hugh Heffner.  William Shatner, who for a mere $500 admitted some attendees to have lunch with him. I wonder what was on the menu?

william_shatner William Shatner drew an amazing amount of attention and for a guy that just turned 80 prior to the show he’s in amazing shape. Come on Will share the secret of your youth with us. When not surrounded by his entourage, body guards (interestingly enough dressed up as characters as well to blend in), photographers, or fans Mr. Shatner was being wisked off to his luncheon or off to a private break from the crowds. While not very talkative or overly friendly with the fans Im sure a lot of that has to do with being mobbed by thousands of people.  I would carry an economy can of mace and a baseball bat with me if I was him. Warp Speed Captian and have a Good Journey.
jonathan_frakes While not drawing the crowd that Mr. Shatner had, Jonathan Frakes was nevertheless constantly surrounded by fans and admirers of his acting. He played one of the more interesting roles during the series and we wish him well.
kevin_sorbo Kevin Sorbo was probably the warmest of the group of celebrities there and wore a constant smile when he greeted guests. Its refreshing to see a star who still appreciates his fans so much even after being overrun with the flashes of camera’s and a never ending line of requests to sign your name for them. We regret that we weren’t able to take the time to speak to Mr. Sorbo while we were there but listing to him talk to his fans and watch him greet the endless procession warmed our hearts.
lou_ferrigno The Hulk, I mean Mr. Ferrigno is impressive to say the least. Is he bigger now than when he was covered in green makeup and throwing bad guys around or is it just an optical illusion. The man is 60 years old and he was very easily larger than two of William Shatner’s body guards put together. He’s huge, maybe he uses the loading dock to get in the hall rather than the front doors. Lou is a regular at MegaCon and never ceases to impress us.
michael_dorn Worf’s attire is only missing the heads of some predators to be complete. We have no doubt that in reality Worf is a reborn spartan. The actor Michael Dorn has played in numerous roles, most notably as Worf from SNG and also as Kalibak from Justice League.  Can’t wait to see what he does next. Eat any good books lately?
traci_brooks Wow, just Wow. And the picture to the left just doesn’t do her justice. Mental note: Get a picture with Tracy Brooks next time. Unfortunately guys she’s married as of January 2010.  The TNA Knockout posed for Playboy in 2009 (Picking up that issue quite soon) Wow…
james_marsters Another very friendly actor at MegaCon was James Marsters who played Spike on Buffy as well as in Angel. Our favorite actor and role for both series he gave fans a warm welcome and engaged in chat with all of his fans.
cindy_morgan Amazingly sexy in Tron and still so 30 years later Cindy Morgan also appeared in CaddyShack. She wore a very nice dress during MegaCon but we prefer the Tron outfit. As a side note did you guys know the lighting in all of the original Tron suits were done as after effects and not during shooting.
