Features Explained:

                The inline bass vibration and volume control is a device located in the middle of the wire between the headset and plug.  The control allows you to change the volume with a simple volume wheel located on the side of the device and also allows you to change the bass vibration from off, normal, and max bass.  Having the ability to simply change the amount of volume and bass is a key feature in that it is very convenient for you to adjust with ease.

                The choice is yours, should you power the bass through a USB port or by using 2x AAA batteries.  Personally, I would choice to use the USB port as it costs less money than buying batteries.  Yet if you were on the go and listening to an MP3 player then you do have the option of using the batteries.

                Comfort is a big issue when you tend to be using an item for an extended period of time.  The HS-04V offers you their Open-Air design which will provide hours of comfort.  The Open-Air design is basically the three long slots on the outside of the ear piece which allows sound waves to travel away from the ear, keeping the person isolated from the outside world.  Having the Open-Air design also allows air to flow from the outside, keeping the ear cooled down and comfortable after long periods of time.

                The gooseneck microphone allows the user to position the microphone whereever you feel fit.  Since microphones aren’t a one size fits all, this gives you the ability to change it to however you like, providing the ultimate speaking position.

Performance:

                I tested the HS-04V several different ways.  First I tested it by playing music that had strong bass but also good vocals to see if the bass would possibly drown out the vocals.  Secondly I tested the headset by playing games.  And finally by using internet voice chat.

                Test by Music: I played several different songs all providing significant amounts of bass and vocals.  Each song that I tested came out clear and the bass by vibrations worked very well.

                Test by Games: Tested using various first person shooters. When shooting, you are able to feel the bass after each shoot.  Having the bass hit after each shot does seem to be good, but after playing over some time the bass does get a little annoying.  Changing the bass from max to normal on the volume control did help and sounded better.  In some instances while playing, there is a lot of shooting and you may decide to turn the bass off. Similarly, if the bass was sensitive.

                Test by Voice Chat: Using a program called Skype, I was able to connect with a friend with voice and video communications over the internet. The quality of the sound was fairly good, though a little choppy. I assumed it was due to the internet connection. My friend told me that the quality of my voice was significantly better than my older microphone. He also reported that it was clearer and crisper, as if I was standing right there with him.
