Looking at this data we pulled out a few factors of importance.
- The device has a MTBF of 100,000 hours. This passes the Antec True Power
480 by 20,000 hours. For the mathmatically inclined 100,000 hours translates
into 4166.66 days or 11.41 years. After 11 years if the PSU is still going,
the technology its powering is probably outdated to the point of antiquity.
Conclusion: It probably won't fail anytime soon, and when it does you most
likely won't care about the hardware it was attached to anymore.
- The 5v and 12v rails carry an excellent amperage rating of 45 and 26 respectively.
In comparison the Antec True Power 480 has 5 and 12v rails of 38 and 22
respectively. The stronger the 5 and 12v rails are, the less likely adding
additional hardware into the system will drag down these rails to the point
of affecting system performance.
- The Star Tech device includes 2 x SATA power connectors. This is a feature
absent from the Antec True Power 480. These connectors allow an end user
to avoid having to utilize an adapter that converts a molex to a SATA power
connector.
- The Star Tech device meets some safety standards for North America and
Europe but not nearly as many as the approvals for the Antec True Power
480. This means that the Star Tech device probably has simply not been tested
by these organizations, Antec is a larger company and thoroughly tests its
devices.
