StarTech 480 Watt Silent Power Supply
Review by Jason Jacobs on 3/30/04
Power Supply Provided by Star Tech

Conclusion:

The Star Tech 480 Watt Silent Power Supply lives up to its implied use. The PSU proves to be a very quiet operation PSU that provides good quality consistant power with no noticable power spikes or sags. Additionally it runs quite cool compared to the Antec True Power 480. The Star Tech device does have a shockingly high retail price of $179, which is much above industry standard for a PSU of this wattage rating. With Antec True Power 480 Watt power supplies available for $50 or less, many enthusiasts may not look beyond their pocketbook when making a decision on a power supply. For the quiet PC enthusiast there are several selections available and several which retail below the selling price of the Star Tech 480 Watt Silent PSU. The buyer must then decide how important the amperage rating of the rails and consistancy of output is to him/her.

Pro's:
Consistant power
Above Average 12v and 5v ratings
(2) SATA connectors without the use of adapters
Very Quiet Operation
Runs Cool

Con's:
High Price Tag
