Thermaltake V1 CPU Cooler
Features:
As you can see the V1 is an almost all copper design with 4 heatpipes running through the cooler. The mid placed fan design sandwiched between the fins is an interesting approach to cooling. Several other manufacturers have tried similar designs and usually the key to the sucess is overall airflow. This design looks hopeful due to the open air design of the fan. The fan should be able to such enough air in from the sides to allow for adequate airflow over the fins. The close proximity of the fins to the fan may pose a problem as the air may take the path of least resistance and flow around the edges of the heatsink rather than through the fins as would be optimal for cooling. We will test this cooler next and show how well it performs against others.
Specifications:
At 16dBA the lowest fan setting this cooler is very quiet, even at its highest rating of 24 its still not loud. The fan rotational speed can be adjusted between 1300 and 2000. This may not be enough to allow for some really good cooling and we would like to see the scale pushed up a bit perhaps from 1500 to 2200 or 2500rpm which of course would impact the overall noise produced by the heatsink. We feel the cooling payoff might just be worth the extra noise. At 637g this is also not a light weight cooler but its well within the tolerance of the socket.
