Albatron K8X800 Pro II Motherboard

Layout and Setup

Albatron has a pretty good board design here with a few small areas of concern.

1. The floppy connector is placed underneath the bottom PCI slot making cable routing difficult and obstructing airflow.

2. The ATX Power connector is in a poor position at the far upper right of the board where it could interfere with CD drives. It is also separated from the 12V 4-pin power connector which makes for a messy cable configuration.

The good part is that the K8X800 Pro II has an excellent, though small, copper heatsink on the northbridge which does a good job at keeping the temps down.

Also unlike some boards at this price level the K8X800 Pro II has three Ram slots not two.

Albatron also ships this board with an AMD 64 HSF mounting bracket that is missing from some board packages.

The connectors for the power switch, reset, LED's, and speaker are all at the bottom of the board which makes cable routing simple and tidy.

Albatron also chose to deviate from the green PCB that most manufacturers use. The Blue board and Northbridge heatsink will look great in any case with a window.

Here is a shot of the board hooked up and running.

On to the Testing
