Server Comments:

What is important here are the twin gigabit ethernet ports per node and the ability in the 6015T-INFV to daisy chain the two nodes together via Infiniband. This is especially useful to the HPC crowd. Support for dual and quad core cpu's is native to all releases of the X7DBT integrated boards. In our review of Microsoft Windows Server code named "Longhorn" we put this server to the test and found that is blazed through all of our benchmarks.

Setup and Configuration:

Setup of the 6015T-TV was as simple as plug and play. Internal cable management and design is excellent. All 6 of the push pull fans are seated in a rubber cushion chair designed to help minimize vibrations, a needed feature at the speed and airflow of these fans. CPU and heatsink mounting was ultra simplistic with the included SNK-P0017 heatsinks and installing hard drives was equally as easy. Initial setup of a single node took approximately 15 minutes and worked on the first boot. As is traditional with server and HPC boards the bios has many options and tweaks designed to allow for ultra customization of nearly every system option. We used the defaults and with some minor tweaks to the boot order which includes USB and external storage options we were booting Longhorn in minutes.

980w of High Efficiency Power:

The included power supply with the 6015T is rated at 980W which may be a bit of overkill unless you populate all of the memory slots, hard drive bays, and put the highest rated CPU's into each position. Even then we cannot see the 6015T requiring more than 75% of the rated output of the 980w PSU. Our test configuration included twin Xeon 5150 cpu's, 2GB of Crucial DDR2 PC-5300 FB DIMM ram, and two WD 250GB SATA hard drives on a single node and we only drew a mere 210w from this single node. Amazingly our Seasonic Power Angel shows that the 980w PSU has a PF (power factor) of between 98 and 99% which is nearly unheard of at that wattage rating. We let the system run for a full 24h hours and the power factor rating never dropped below 98% even during high CPU and hard drive utilization. Companies with high electrical expenses looking to cut their costs while improving their computing power the 6015T is definitely worth looking at.
