ConclusionsThe HighPoint RocketRAID 2640X4 can be seen as a tremendous step forward in the world of Linux based SAS controllers. Not only does HighPoint offer a four drive controller with excellent transfer speeds. The included documentation, utilities, and driver support is second to none. For a long time, SATA support under Linux was done through an emulated interface that required much kludging to achieve even a minimal level of functionality. It is through the dedication of the developers in the Linux community and support from companies such as HighPoint that advanced mass storage devices have made their way into Linux. It is nice, as a Ubuntu Server administrator myself, to see that not only did the manufacturer provide binary driver modules for their chosen set of systems, but they also provide an open source driver that can be made to work on any number of other platforms. During the course of this in-depth analysis of the performance of this controller card, I have gained even more respect for the HighPoint product line. The price on this unit is around $149 from froogle, and the performance that this card provides is worth at least twice that. For a home business or small office in need of some serious data storage potential, I would definitely suggest giving this product a serious look. From the experiences that I have had working both with this product and the great people at HighPoint, I have elected to give this product our highest award here at TechwareLabs:
A big thanks goes out to the staff of HighPoint and their engineering department, for putting together an awesome product with great driver support. We would be pleased to see more companies dedicated to providing universal driver support. REALTIME PRICING
