Introduction

The LITE-ON name carries with it a certain reputation of precision, accuracy, and quality. Their ability to consistantly offer top-shelf optical drives at prices well below competitors of the same caliber (Plextor, NEC, etc.) have pushed them into the top three CD/DVD-ROM manufacturers of the world. In fact, many 'big name' companies like Sony actually rebrand LITE-ON drives and sell them as their own at a premium. The astute shopper can save alot of money without sacrificing quality by shopping LITE-ON. With that said, we are pleased that Lite-On has provided us with the opportunity to test-drive a sample of their flagship technology, the EZ-DUB. The EZ-DUB makes big promises to simplify and streamline what has become the increasingly technical and complex task of duplicating CDs and DVDs. With this new, easy to use external drive, LITE-ON aims at users who don’t like to hassle with complicated software programs when they want to duplicate a disc or backup their files. The claim is substantial, one button CD and DVD duplication; let's see if LITE-ON has the brass to back it up.

From Lite-On's EZ-DUB press release:

EZ-DUB allows you to copy discs in three simple steps:

  1. Insert the original CD/DVD
  2. Press the 'DUB’ button
  3. Peplace the disc with a blank disc to record when prompted

EZ-DUB allows you to backup data in three simple steps:

  1. Drag files to the EZ-DUB folder on the desktop
  2. Insert a blank disc
  3. Press the 'FILE' button

Let's take a look at what makes up the new EZ-DUB from Lite-On.
