Sapphire Edge HD2 Mini PC
Whats Under the Hood
Lets take a look at what Sapphire has chosen to put into the Edge HD2.
Motherboard: Pegatron IPPPV-D3G
RAM: Goldkey DDR3-10600 2GB on 1x SO-DIMM. Sapphire lists the included ram to be DDR3-800. Sapphire has included better RAM than listed on the box. Nice…
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint 320GB @ 5400 rpm. Nice Name brand. Plenty of size. Low rpm means low power consumption. We’ll Test this drive in benchmarking.
WLAN Adapter: AzureWave 802.11 B/G/N. Further research shows this card to be a 150Mbps card. While this is plenty for almost any application, it isn’t enough to stream 1080p HD video. A “Make or Break” for people looking to use this as a networked media front end.
CPU Cooler: Sunon Maglev. While this cooler looks small it does it’s job. Check out the tests on the Benchmarking page.
While actually opening the Edge HD2 can present it’s challenges, the internal layout is quite friendly for future upgrades. Removing the RAM and HDD is no different than upgrading a laptop.
