For those who like playing with proteins, or just want to post impressive results on Folding@Home, the ScienceMark benchmark will give you a quick rundown of how your CPU performs when doing heavy number crunching for scientific applications.

The 1100T posted a strong showing here, with an overall score of 2058. Doubtless a 890FX-based board would have improved the scores, as this test suite is extremely bandwidth intensive.

Crysis Warhead

Now we come to one of the other mainstays of PC benchmarking, Crysis Warhead. Even several years after its release, it continues to be a consistent way to test the CPU’s ability to push data through in a timely fashion.

Across both of the test levels, we saw framerates consistently in the 50s, with only occasional dips as new geometry and texture data was loaded from disk. Clearly, this CPU is holding nothing back.

Conclusion

So, now we come down to the big question: is it worth my money? Well, that answer depends on your situation. If you absolutely must have the best of the best, and can afford to put your wallet where your ambition is, then you’ll probably want to look to Intel’s high end offerings. On the other hand, if spending $1000 to get a hexa-core processor sounds crazy to you—it certainly does to us—then you’ll want to give this CPU a second look.

This CPU cranks through loads that would fell a lesser beast; the extra cores really smooth things out when it comes to multi-tasking. Unlike Intel’s hyperthreading gimmick, which uses scheduler shenanigans to pretend it’s got two execution units per core, AMD is sticking to the facts. This means that when the system is under truly punishing loads—a game of Crysis Warhead, transcoding a movie from Blu-Ray and transferring files from backup, all at once—it doesn’t buckle. For the price, the Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition is simply unbeatable.
