Default some gamma problems with winxp and geforce2MX

well, a couple months ago, i bought a new computer, with winXP and a geforce2, i was dissappointed to find that some of my games (despite making gamma changes in winxp) are really dark, to a point i cant play them, when i leave the game, i find that my desktop gamma has reset itself to factory default (which is really dark) is there any way to fix this?

btw, yes i have newest drivers and all

Hi trent and welcome. You didn't say anything about monitor settings, have you made any adjustments to the monitors brightness/contrast settings ? Most have individual controls.
Unless you have the correct test patterns up, gamma adjustments should be left at default, just my opinion.

Welcome Trent,

Also what brand is your new PC? That would help some too. I found some links but they are Manufacturer Specific. Nvidia makes the chipsets but sells them to the Different Manufactuer's.

Thanks

If some games are dark but others are OK, the card is fine.
Some games don't run properly under specific OS (ding, ding, ding).
maybe compatibility issue (what specific games run properly or not, exactly ?).
Some games have special video settings (and default is not always the best choice, like it was with Unreal). filtering, color depth, texture quality, unique gamma correction, try everything.

yep happened to me several times with Sam.

Drivers for XP are far from being perfect, maybe fresh upgrade can fix it.

MechCommander 2, FS2, Q3 (even with ingame gamma changes) HW: Cataclysm, total annihilation, star craft. many of these games work with a winXP machine with a GeForce2MX for other ppl

Q3 required openGL drivers to install for W98, otherwise it didn't run properly, openGL doesn't have support for XP for sure, but I'm not sure it's required for GF2 ...
but starcraft, TA - these games make no use of graphics acceleration, so probably simply wouldn't run under XP (pretty old, but damn good games)
I don't know much about XP, but certain things (especially games with heavy graphics), probably wouldn't work properly or at all, just like under W2K.
Is there any way you can get W98, most of games would be 100% OK

Cheers
