It is what we have all been waiting for! The Toro 30050 iMow Robotic Mower is the latest in the field of automated lawn mowers, designed to toil in the hot sun while their owners sip lemonade and surf the web in the shade.
Like the Robomow from Friendly Robotics and the Auto Mower from Husqvarna, the iMow works by detecting low-voltage magnetic fields created by a wire that users install on the perimeter of their yards. The iMow follows the wire and then moves inward to mow the rest of the lawn in a triangular pattern.
Distinguishing features of the iMow include a heat-resistant LCD screen on the manual controller and tire treads on the wheels. Weighing about 70 pounds, the iMow runs on a 24-volt rechargeable battery for up to two and a half hours. The iMow is not recommended for lawns with steep hills or a lot of trees or lawns bigger than 5,000 square feet. It is available for $800 at
