Record CD-Recordable (CD-R) discs at up to 24X (Max.) speed, CD-ReWritable discs at up to 10X (Max.) speed. This means you can record a full 650 MB of data on a CD-R disc in less than 4 minutes, and a CD-RW disc in about 6 minutes. And with playback at up to 40X (Max.) speed, you can read back your data quickly, giving you fast access to even the largest files.

What do you mean to reduce ?? Just link technology (and many others) totally eliminates any buffer underrun probs.
Don't know bout Sony, I'm with Yamaha
