10 Reasons Computers Crash
It happens to us all - our computer picks a time when we're in the middle of something fun or important, and the crashes. Screaming in frustration we may inflict damage on the keyboard or ourselves while we attempt to overcome the frustration and return to the point we were at.

Re: 10 Reasons Computers Crash
I read through the 10 reasons and I didn't find the one I was looking for.
You know, . . . Error 15
Anyone working within the computer IT/IS Industry should know that the leading cause of computer crashes is just that
[glow=BLUE,2,300]ERROR 15[/glow]

Re: 10 Reasons Computers Crash
Ok,
Error 15 typically indicates that the error lies 15 inches in front of the keyboard.
This is the number one reason for comupter crashes. Am I wrong?

Re: 10 Reasons Computers Crash
I work for any ISP and I am a true believer that most of the progems people have are because of them. Almost 90% of the time it is user error, nothing else. I always laugh when people call in for support because they just formatted their computer themselves and they cannot even set up a dial-ip networking connection. And, then there are the people who call up and cannot even tell you what version of windows they are running, or cannot even right-click on something. I makes me wonder why some people buy computers. It is great for everyone to own one, however some people just cannot get them...

Re: 10 Reasons Computers Crash
Just took a call from a guy, he's in DC and having trouble connecting to us.
Um, we're in Oregon. So like he's dialing totally long distance, with a MAC no less and keeps getting dropped.
Well error 15 is the most realist error message I've ever heard and it is proven on a daily basis.
My goal is to teach everyone in my town and local sorounding areas how to use their computers and to effective remove error 15. In fact if I can't teach em new tricks I wont sell them a computer.

Re: 10 Reasons Computers Crash
That is a great idea to not sell them a computer if they are unwilling to learn anything, because they will just keep calling you for help everytime one little thing wrong happens.
I always hate it when people do not even try to troubleshoot their problems, and when they cannot accept the fact that sometimes things do not always work everytime. Just yesterday I remember that I had one person call up because she got disconnected one time, and another person who called up because he said he could not connect. I asked him how many times he tried to connect and he said once, I told him to try again while I was on the phone with him and he was able to get on right away. Most of the time I urge customers to restart their computer and try it at least twice before they call us when something doesn't work right.

Re: 10 Reasons Computers Crash
General rule here is try up to three times, if you cannot connect then power off/on the system and try three more times.
At that point if you still cannot connect we will troubleshoot the situation and go from there.
Most of our subscribers minus the new ones understand this now and over the long haul have learned to not call until they've performed these tasks.
There is always going to be the one though who just doesn't get it and will continue to call in.

Re: 10 Reasons Computers Crash
Where I work there are many ignorant customers who refused to do anything without a tech holding their hand. Some people cannot even run through our set-up cd without a tech on the phone, and all it asked the user for is their username and city that they live in!!
