Default Ad-aware

I am thinking about installing a spyware remover because of all the rumours about software "phoning home." Many people have noted that Ad-aware is a great tool for removing all spyware. Has anyone had and good/bad experience with it? What else is recommended?

Thanks

Keefe

its pretty good

but it does scans out some ad wares that are not spywares

one just need to be able to distinguish between adware and spyware before deleting

thats all

I have found that Spybot search&destroy finds more than Adaware.

I take that back, well sorta

I just ran Adawares refupdate
and ran it and it found 5 things that
the updated spybot didn't find !

I think I'll just use both of them.

I use Adaware plus, which has Ad Watch. Ad Watch is a real-time remover that removes the file/cookie/registry edit as it occurs.

I highly recommend ad-aware. Had a friend install it and he found over a 100 componets on his computer.

I just ran AdAware and it found 5 cookies
then I ran spybot and it found 1 cookie and a registry entry

both of them have latest updates

in spybot one can mark all cookies to keep
like techware cookie etc.
so one can delete the rest of the cookies

next time I'll start with spybot and see what happens

I have found it can be useful, but mostly for Gator components. I just get rid of spyware when I format my computer that way if anyone does ever receive any results they are not long-term which are the valuable ones. This way they'll get thrown out anyways.
