Nvidia rarely has any driver issues, or any thing in that sense that causes hassles. They are also more backwards compatible than the ATI's.

For the price of getting the ATI cards, you can get a GeForce4TI 4200 or 4400. I too believe that Nvidia-based cards are better than ATI. With the GeForce4TI card it will last u a longer time than the ATI cards.
