administrator password?

hi,
i faced exactly the same problem you discussed in this topic.
was almost able to solve it but once i got into this recovery console
i had type in a password of the administrator which i dont know.
i tried several keywords that i guessed (also tried to just enter without a word) but couldnt succeed.
but notice that i inserted a win xp pro cd even though win xp home version is installed. i had borrowed the home cd to somebody else.
and i am afraid that i cannot recover my data.
do you think with the home version cd there wont be this question?

hey..just leave the password blank and try that..I made a bootdisk to get into my pc..but I enede up recovering it so I would not have to turn it on everytime using the boot disk.I got some quickrestore cd's from compaq for like 10 bux..and it restores it to the way it was when purchased..but while using the boot disk to get in i saved all my info on cd's..I can get you all the contents on my boot disk but it will be later when i get home..I guess oyu will have access to a pc? so e-mail me at bridget36907@yahoo.com if you can't find one on the net!

ok later

hi,
are you talking about the boot disk which was described earlier in this topic?
well, it's a notebook which is not mine and ever since it has to boot from the floppy to get in to windows xp.
so, when i insert the windows xp cd (the version differs) and get into the recov console it asks me fot that passwd of admin.
and i also tried it with blank but it wouldnt let me in.
the thing is that i do not want to recover the pc to the state when it was purchased. i just like to get into windows without having this boot disk inserted all the time. because without the boot disk it says ntdlr missing.

cheers

yeah I had to use the boot disk also until I recovered m y pc :/

the only other way to do it is to have an xp cd and tell it to repair it..I just saved all my information to cd's and recovered tehn re-installed everything!

I think i'll be force to format the computer cause if i tell it to repair it... all it's ok... but when I reboot... i got the message another time... :/

Hi, i know, this discussion is really old but just in case sbdy is watching it now:

There is another way how to restore your XPs -without cd
You need to get into console and here extract the backup from i386.cab (use "help" command if you don't know those strange commands console uses). This should restore backup and everything should work (i haven't tried, just heard about it, I repaired it by reinstalling  )

NTLDR loader missing on XP - McAfee!

Loading new software, this error message appeared when rebooting. Previously had removed the "free" McAfee virus offer that popped up every time the computer was turned on. It must have had the missing file, because when the computer (Fujitsu) was restored to a previous backed up day, it notified what file would be restored. Ta-Da.

Where may I locate Recov. Console with NTLDR missing?

Hey can anyone tell me how to access the recovery console in XP Home edition? I am currently suffering from this very problem and I'm certain it can be fixed from there, I just don't know how or where to locate it.

Thanx
