I really want to get a 64 bit proc...the problem is i have no money right now :P

Jason425 01-20-2004 09:02 PM

i don't see why anyone would want a 64 bit proc right now.. unless you want to futureproof your comp or something..

its faster .......ive noticed the diff big time

I'm going 64 bit by the end of the month. I'm getting the 3400+ and the Asus VIA motherboard. I'm also switching to Swiftech liquid cooling which I'm going to cool my mobo and GPU with at the same time. I'm also upgrading my case to the Thermaltake full server case, it should be in Thursday. I'm getting 1 GB of the new Corsair Ram that is TwinX and has the new coolers with the LEDs on them. DDR400!

well of course it's faster than your 1.5 p4..

gnogtr a friend of mine has the swifttech set and he says its good for newbs but he wishes he put together his own kit with the best sepearate parts

Its also an excellent choice for the present... not just for the future, Its relatively cheap too compared to a 3200+ or the like.

gnogtr 01-21-2004 06:18 PM

I know I should build my own liquid system, but I'm cheap and lazy :) .

Stinky's right. People don't buy 64-bit systems because they don't want to pay extra money for them, but if you were to ignore the fact that they are 64-bit you'd see that they are cheaper and faster than competing lines, such as the 32-bit Athlon XP (about 100 dollars more for the same speed rating, yet significantly less performance).

Jason425 01-22-2004 09:18 PM

hm.. well except for the 2500+ i've never owned or even researched prices, etc on amd cpu's.. the 64 bit cpu's just turn me off.. even more than nvidia's future-less cards..

vee_ess 01-22-2004 09:28 PM

Well, they are the fastest cards, and significantly cheaper than their 32-bit Intel counterparts. And with the rumors I've seen of the Prescotts benching slower than the Northwoods, it doesn't look like things are going to change. For a 3400+, it'll cost you about 400, while a P4EE is more than double that price, and the 3400+ is 10 to 50 percent faster depending on the benchmark.
