Agreed vee_ess, I think its definatly worth getting into 64 bit for both now, and the future

ok amd fan boys.. i would NEVER buy an EE at that price.. the 2.4c and the 2500+ are STILL the only two cpu's that i recommend to anyone. IMO comp hardware is in a down period.. where everything sucks and is overpriced.. hopefully we get out soon.

vee_ess 01-24-2004 01:16 PM

For their price (including what it costs for the mobo) those are still about the best.

Jason425 01-24-2004 04:10 PM

so pro what did you pay for your cpu+mobo?

It looks like the Asus K8T800 board, which I'm getting is $140-$150 depending upon where you get it, and the 3400+ is $400. So, around $550. But, I also ordered some dual channel Corsair TwinX DDR400 with the new coolers for $248 and my new dual radiator/gpu block/Swiftech cooling parts for $325, plus I bought a new ThermalTake XaserIII case which was $133. I know I dumpted a ton of $$ into my new system, but it should be well worth it, especially when I get my hands on overclocking it :)

well my mobo was like $150.. cheaper now.. and my 2.4c was $170.. and i'm at "3400+" .. but 3.2 EE is a total rip .. $1k for a cpu.. :/

Yup. The 64 will be faster when they get the 64 bit Windows XP out. I'm going to get the new Red Hat Linux which is 64 bit when it comes out later this month. I'll have they board and chip when I get my next check from the school. I've got $1400 waiting on me as soon as the school recieves the $$. I just orded the ST cooling system and Ram yesterday, and I got my new case in on Thursday. I switched out my system components as soon as I got it in, but I can't put the side on until I get my new cooling system in because the TT cooling system won't fit in there good enough to keep it properly cooled....Plus I've got to order some new blacklights and another round IDE cable so I can mount my 100GB external in there. I'm probably going to get a Logitech cordless duo pretty soon too when my roommate buys my motherboard/processor and cooling system. I'm cutting him a deal:

$250 for the board/processor
$50 for the liquid cooling

I'm putting my case with a PSU/fan controller and fans on ebay, as well as my ram.

I want $150 for both sticks of RAM together. SWEET
