Im not going to bother registering, its not necessary. But you all are gullible. Bonebox is full of crap, don't believe a word he says. Can you not tell he is just pulling ur chain? Every time you try to get details or a pic of what he has done he makes some excuse. You are all dumber for seeing any truth in what this person says. He never made the box, its bs! Otherwise you would see these mods all over the net if its as easy as he said it was. Go back and read his posts and think about how easy it would be to come up with the crap he said. Oh yeah 4 LCD's stretched accross the screen, gimme a break.

Also, have we not been saying that BoneBox is full of it and that he has done nothing, or has my foreign heritage led me astray from the comprehension of my native language?
I'm starting to think we should design the U.S. economy like the Canadian model, because evidently you can get a business running for a very out-of-demand product to sell like crazy despite an outrageous price in a matter of weeks! |
another approach
I have spent alot of time hacking the IOpener machines. maybe someone can use this as an approach to putting another display on your machine. You could look for a way to network it to your Big Rig, and let it recieve images over Network(TCP/IP). find a way to access the display using a serial interface. I'm sure someone can find or write a low level driver that can send something to the IOpener to display. I have hacked mine with a 10Gig harddrive and a CD ROM. I use it to play MP3's, and it works fine. You can get an Iopener on EBay really cheap. I payed more to get mine shipped, than I payed for the unit itself. the only real disadvantage for the IOpener, is that the screen gets snowy when alot of movement is displayed on the screen, but that is just because it is an older type lcd.
Someone should take apart one of those lcd desktop displays(one that is broken) and see if your laptop screen will plug into its controller. I wish you all luck. James |
can I bipass using the inverter and just use an adapter to..
power a laptop screen?
|
i know this has been mentioned before.....but DVI is digital...thats what a lot market LCD's are connected to anyways... why can't you just wire one up for that... then the whole VGA thing is tossed away...and you just have to find a way to rewire 44 pins to a 24 pin port... (dont think i helped matters at all.) anyone willing to "brute force" the wiring ? that would take SOME time but it would work eventually LOL

use laptop screen on a pc??
I wonder, after reading this from the beginning, would it make sense to use a video card with an output for an LCD monitor?? They aren't terribly expensive, especially if you use eBay, and it would be digital already, so no need for conversion from analog signals. I can't imagine it's as simple as connecting the appropriate digital out from the video card to the corresponding pins on the raw LCD display, but maybe with an inverter board(which, honestly, I don't know what it is, LOL) it could be done. Also, what was the conclusion on the pins on the video cards? The ones that resemble a 20 pin version of a floppy or IDE connections? Are they for connection to a video source? Analog or digital? Maybe it's worth pursuing, IT MUST BE POSSIBLE TO USE A LAPTOP'S LCD SCREEN ON MY PC WITHIN A REASONABLE BUDGET!!! I have appreciated reading all of the posts, good luck to you all...

how do you get the thing to turn on??
after reading all of the topic I feel that i am tempted to buy a cheap laptop screen and destroy it  but if i accidentaly get this thing to work how do you actually power the thing up??? is there a pin set you need to touch a screwdriver to or something??
Thanks people. |
you guys are kidding yourselves......hahahahahahaha
anyway the thing is you can't use an lcd panel on a vga or dvi signal those are analog, lcd is digital in that it requires a whole bunch of signals to power up one line of pixels. to do this you must have a converter board which takes the vga signal and digitizes it however as there is no clear standard to lcd panel technology the converter board MUST be compatible with the panel. These boards are a waste of money as you might as well buy a 15 incher lcd for the cost LCD screen cost so much because of the boards you see, analog to digital, only cheaper than if you buy separate because of the economies of scale. |
heres a novil idea, after reading this topis from start to finish.
you know how sony brought out the little ps1 well, there are also these cool attachments that are LCD screens. they are cheap to pick up second hand, PAL/NTSC even speakers, volume control, brightness, contrast.. there are models that arnt sony, so they are cheaper.... a psi works on AV out (RCA) y not get a dirt cheap agp card, or simila, that has av out, only has to be 4 or 8mb, not like it has to be high res for games.... they run of 7v or 7.5.. i forget. these would be wicked for it, most are apx 5" !!! y not if there are still people reading this thread, i think it is a good idea for all the lcd mods, its not quite the laptop lcd idea, but maby you can hook a bigger lcd up to it?? i don tknow, no techy on that side of things. Laptop as a dual display
I found a software utility Maxivista which allows you to use a laptop as an additional display of your main work horse.
Available at http://www.maxivista.com Devilizzy |
Hmm... lemme see... DVI=DIGITAL VIDEO INTERFACE/IMAGING
Come on, buy any laptop that has a DVI interface and you should be able to rewire it. I just sent a request to Hitachi about my LCD screen. I have an old Hitachi LMG9400XUCC LCD screen. It has a 40 pin connector and a 3 pin connector. I assume the 3-pin is for some sort of power supply. The 40 pin is obviously data. The 40 pin cable has 9 wires missing from it, which instantly cuts down the number of wires to 31. Imagine how many of those must be grounds and power, and you are left with few wires. http://www.nti1.com/technote.html#dvi DVI only has 1 ground and 1 power. Should not be that hard to rewire a plug. Don't need any VGA to DVI connector, just buy a DVI extension cable and slice the wires or something. I am going to after I get a reply from the manufacturer. |
I am going to work on this to connect a desktop to a lcd if it work i will surely tell you
|
I have a compaq persario that has the lcd connector on the back of the case. I know this is built onto the main board, Would this help into rigging up a laptop lcd display?
|
That's for a second display or to use an external display instead, I believe.

Confused
Well I am NEW so dont hammer me like BoneBox. >:) But IS there a Step-by-step instruction guide to ataining this goal??? I admit ihavent read ALL of the posts in this topic. I also want to get this done. For anumber of reasons. MP3 box, kitchen computer flip down screen. DVD plaver in car,etc... :firedevil:
I havent seen any real websites that offer this. Also we are IN 2004 now. doesnt this seem like an easy project nowadays, with technology is now? Any info is going to help out :o |
yeah, i'd still like to do this one day, but for now i've all but forgotten this idea. i dont know enough about electronics and stuff to figure this out on my own.
one day maybe i will. thanks for reading though. |
i broke my laptop's LCD last month
i might take it apart and start experimenting with it maybe ill post some pics if i do decide to start taking it apart |

PSone Screen
I HAVE SEEN IT DONE WITH A PSone SCREEN!!!!
Greatest use of the screen I have ever seen. You use a VGA interface too. It is really easy to do, someone stopped by the bit-tech forums and told about it. Unlike some people we know this guy really does know how to do it, and he has pics to back it up. He requested that you visit his site and just link to the guide there. It is awesome and I am going to do it in a month or two after I finish up some of my current mods. http://www.kickassamd.com He just set up the site and it has had some tech difficulties so it may be up and down. If it is down just email me and I will go dig up some pictures from the other forums. |

http://www.kickassamd.com/modules/mo....php?storyid=1 finally, a good answer to my first post on NetSmog. wow, that was a while ago huh? thanks alot, maybe when i get a new job and some cash i'll start work on my dream again. thanks again man! |
Thanks Aemon for the direct link.. makes it easier ;)
|
no prob man.
|
just read this on slashdot
http://ask.slashdot.org/askslashdot/....shtml?tid=137 maybe if TWL organizes the info on this thread and makes it into a short article, it can get on slashdot and bring in millions of readers! |
dead link
|
its not dead
it works fine for me just now its slashdot, how can it be dead? |
works now.. before it was 404...
|
another way
another way to achieve our goals it can be the emulation of image processing chips and the tunneling through usb or other ports of the signal that was emitted from our emulator!!! (I think it would be possible, I didn' t ever tried to do it)

LCD Solution
I have stumbled upon a solution that I will be implementing in the next week or so. I found what Samsung calls a "System on Panel" on Ebay and just won the bidding for $165. I know that's a little pricey for a project, but it's super cheap for a brand new 15" Samsung LCD, and cheaper even than an LCD controller card. It is manufactured for industrial applications like kiosks.
Specs are as follows: Model Number: LTM150XI-A01 Screen Size: 15" Diagonal Resolution: 1024X768 @ 75Hz Dimensoins: 10 X 13 X .71 (roughly --- and yes, that's less than 3/4 inch thick) Pixel Pitch: .297 Contrast Ratio: 300:1 Brightness: 250 cd/m2 Weight: 4 lbs. (a little heavy, but I can handle it) Interface: VGA (Analog RGB) Power Source: +9 VDC to +12VDC (12 VDC @ 2.3 amp) This unit includes built in LCD controller, backlight inverter, analog to digital converter and OSD controls. Because it is so thin, I am planning to install it in the side of my case, flush with the surface. The only issue I will have to address is cooling. I have plenty of fans though, so we'll see how it goes. Other than that, it's entirely Plug and Play. You can see the official info from Samsung at: http://www.samsung.com/Products/Semi...I/LTM150XI.htm or for PDF spec sheets: http://www.samsung.com/Products/Semi...xi-a01_new.pdf I will get this project going as soon as the unit arrives. Again, $165 is kind of a lot for a computer mod, but for a brand new Samsung SmartPanel that retails for about $400, it's not too bad. I'm excited because this is the culmination of several weeks of research. Cheers, all Richard |
that's an awesome idea
|
So if i'm reading this all correctly, i cant just rewire the lcd screen straight to the digitial lcd out on my video card?

LCD Computer Case Pics
OK,
Here are the photos of the final project: Photo 1 -- I took a picture of the inside of my case and made it the desktop of the LCD to look like a window. Cheesey, but clever, eh? Photo 2 -- Good old Linux desktop... Photo 3 -- The whole computer at an angle. To protect the screen, I cut out a piece of 1/8 inch plexiglass on my table saw. Then I taped off the center portion on the back side and painted the perimeter black. If I were to do this all over again, I would have masking-taped my case so as to prevent the nasty scratches I inflicted on the case while cutting out the opening. I also would have waited to get my case nippers back from my friend instead of using my dremel's cut-off wheel --- but what can I say, I wanted to get it done. Anyway, There it is... Cheers all, Richard |
PS -- Notice the LAN Handle on the top (handicapped safety grab bar) for easy toting to LAN parties...Fun, fun, fun...
|
that's awesome.. I don't understand that last pic.. is it just a picture on the monitor?
|
Last pic...
Yeah, the last pic shows a photo I took of my computer's guts as the desktop of the LCD monitor (see the description of Photo #1 --- I didn't realize that the attached photos would be in reverse order). After I had cut out the side of my case, but before I installed the LCD, I took a picture of the side of my computer with my digital camera. Then I cropped it in photoshop to just what was visible through the cutout and resized the image to 1024 x 768. That makes the image actual size when set as the desktop of the LCD. Like I said, the "window' desktop is cheesey, but I couldn't resist...
|
heh yea it's cheesy but funny
|
stuff
Looks like our prayers have been answered !
Look at the price though.... http://store.earthlcd.com/s.nl/c.318...category.99/.f and its only 640 x 480 :/ Someone just needs to get that circuit diagram and lets get the soldering irons out  !!!! |
I smell a summer project coming up! I found this, another controller kit, which might help.

Laptop TFT in pc case!?
Hi all - I was looking through this thread, some of the ideas are amazing! But most are too expensive for the like of my pocket :(
I have a butchered monitor from an OLD laptop and i found this card on ebay (see link) Seller claims that it will go in AGP slot and run a TFT/LCD type screen without any other gear. http://www.dotronic.com/displaysolut...otcard690.html Has anyone seen one of these yet? does it work? |
