To my total and complete surprise, I'm not able to score any higher on 3dmark with this 9700 pro as I did with the 9500 non pro.

what do ya have the ram vs the chip clocked at..??

It seems no matter what I set the core or mem too it's not stable. The best I got on 3dMark was just over 17.5K. I'm thinking that because I have no AGP/PCI ratio settings, my FSB overclocking on this Giga-byte board is causing the problem.

Yep :) anything over 70 on the agp bus will kill the 9700 pro... just wait for the nforce :)

Hey cik... what are you running for speed on the card... the chip should be good to at least 390 on stock voltage and at least 346x2 on the ddr of the card.... what re you running..??

maybe the shim is effecting the cooling as AI told me before?

shim has a large affect... but just wondering what his video card clocks to or what he has it clocked to...

Here ya go guys :) My new heatsink installed hehe. Is a SK7 by thermalright with an 80mm vantec tornado blowing air thorgh it :) I idle around 92F now and peak at around 98F at 100% fan power. Also bought another cool skull grill to cover up the fan so I do not loose a finger, or "anymore" fingernails :)

it still seems pretty dangerous as that grill is designed for looks, not protection
