This Is Bound To Be Useful Feedback!

Alright. This is a feature (maybe a hack, who knows) that is available at a VB3 forum I'm a part of. Well, here's the idea of it. When the cursor is held over the link that opens the thread, a tool-tip type pop up, popups right there showing what the first post in the thread contains. So if one decides that they don't like what is in the thread, or feels they don't have something to reply to with in that thread, they don't open it. This would be especially useful for us dialup users. Ask me more about it if anyone's confused on the idea. I think it would be a very beneficial addition to this forum! :wavey:

BakerMedia.com

Uranium-235 10-29-2004 01:27 AM

I can technically do that in PHPBB, but I'm too lazy :)

that would be cool, i know its native feature in vBulletin, but not phpbb.

vee_ess 10-31-2004 12:09 AM

You know what, when I'm done with my current software project (which I've had practically no time for), I'll work on a mod for that. It'll slow down the loading times for the pages that contain that. It shouldn't be too hard, though. Simple MySQL reference and an even simpler JavaScript script...

Prometheus 10-31-2004 06:16 AM

*needs to learn HTML or PHP or both*

StinkyMojo 10-31-2004 11:46 AM

HTML is easy, but php reminds me of c++

Jason425 10-31-2004 12:11 PM

go java!!!!!!!! :sunglasses:

Uranium-235 10-31-2004 02:03 PM

actually it woulden't be javascript. It's just the 'title' tag in a href. Of course, you might have to use wordwrap, and there's a vulnrability in wordwrap on all PHP before 4.3.0. I think you can still technically do it by submitting a modified post

StinkyMojo 10-31-2004 09:55 PM

java is on the verge of instinction. it should be killed asap.

Uranium-235 10-31-2004 09:58 PM

I think it's 'extinction'. and no, it's not. There are many things that Java can do, that nothing else can do (I'm talking java, not javascript).

Jason425 10-31-2004 10:24 PM

it is extinction, and yea.. then there wouldn't be all those lame java games!

StinkyMojo 10-31-2004 10:29 PM

whatever.. i can be a spelling nazi too if i wanted... anyway i agree, pretty much all java games are lame

Jason425 10-31-2004 11:33 PM

back to reality, we don't want to make the site any slower.. I enjoy the fact that the site is so fast... but if the feature is that good.. sure..

Uranium-235 11-01-2004 01:32 AM

it woudlen't slow it down noticably

StinkyMojo 11-01-2004 12:32 PM

just switch to vb i think.. im pretty sure you can export all threads.

Uranium-235 11-01-2004 02:27 PM

VB = $160
PHPBB = free

StinkyMojo 11-01-2004 06:12 PM

yeah i know its not free no more, but the older free betas still work. Invision is nice too... meh, but I don't really care, its fine now :). Maybe at least a new theme template for twl considering this is the default template that comes stock with phpbb.. ;)

Jason425 11-01-2004 08:37 PM

1) "not free no more" is like 60's from the south
2) do you mean envision?
3) they already said they can't change the theme

Uranium-235 11-01-2004 09:07 PM

1). huh?
2). no, invision. Invision is actually more expensive then Vbulletin

StinkyMojo 11-02-2004 11:58 AM

Welcome to ENG98.. Introductory to the English language. Are you having fun yet? :sunglasses:

Jason425 11-02-2004 08:36 PM

that's not even a real class... and if you want to think you're an english god, you should probably proof read your posts and see that it should be introduction and not introductory.. like I said, take the door on your left.

oh yeah. there is no practical way to juxtapose articulation habits from such a diverse collection of dialects as is found among us, due largely in part to the varying locations of the arguments used.

in other words, where your from dictates your interpretation of the language. take ebonics. some poeple would say its not proper english, when technically, it's proper ebonics you should be worried about.

we can argue connotations for fun though.

someone correct my grammar and prove my point....
