Tracing screen names
Is there anyway to trace a screen name and find out who it is or where it originated from? Like in a chat room where someone is harassing you under diff names? can u prove that it is all from the same computer even? Thanks
|
Not that I know of. And if there was a way I'm pretty sure this place isn't a good place to find out.
|
you'd have to track their IP.... which I doubt you're going to be able to do unless you own the site... so just get over it and join a diff chat room...
|
get over it?
well I wouldnt have ask If I just wanted to get over it and find another room. It is a room for health problems and we have enough without the harrassment. AND since u tell people how to Hack computers I thought u might know the answer to this question. Guess you arent into it unless u can hack it. Thanks anyway.
|
Hey buddy, I couldn't tell you how to hack even if I wanted to as I don't know... I understand your frustration but I did my best to help and don't need that kind of response... have a nice day in aparantly the only health problem chatroom in the universe..

have you tried contacting the site's admins? i think if they get enough complaints then they'd probably do something..... if nothing else than to change the chat room from anonymous to one you need to sign up for.....
or maybe even set up a board like this, then they have more control over who posts and can ban his IP address if need be |
Thanks
Thanks,we have tried contacting aol about this ,and are getting nothing done. It really is a shame as many need this room for support and most are nice ,caring people. Thanks for your help.
|
oh that's aol huh.. no suprise there.. just a fact of life.. sorry you're still waiting.. because you'll be waiting forever with them...
|
AOL? your internet provider?? no no no..... not helpful......
well unless the chat room is actually run by aol? otherwise you need to contact the people who run the website/chatroom..... |
Get them online with AIM or MSN and direct connect to them with a file transfer....use the command prompt and type netstat so all the connections are shown You can then get their IP
|
ill try to help
 Well you have the right idea, but that won't work. The Ip you would obtain using the netstat -n or netstat -a commands would only be the Ip autoaddressed to your lan, its the pt-Ip, its not good for anything once the person has ended the direct connection, the only way to attempt to trace the person is to somehow find a wan Ip and perform the tracert command on theyre open port, you would need some sort of scanner, such as brute force or n4track. Find the open port, ping it to find its status, perform a discovery scan on theyre block. If there is a de-militarized IP then you can basically perform a standard tunnel. but i dought there would be any dmz, so basically outside of a full force attack, there is no way to trace the person,...Unless you can get by an AOL proxy :shake: ....at that point the feds would be at your door lol...so dun try it.... but if you could get root on his remote machine you could enter the IP in this dossier ,, www.hexillion.com[/b]

The ports that will be open in an AIM direct connection are port 5190-5193[/img]
