Modem problem

I downloaded service pack 2 for windows XP. Now I have lost the dial tone on the modem (Aztech V-92) when I log on. I would like to know how to get it back? Can anyone help please? Thanks. patti

look for updated drivers for your modem

Thanks for your reply. I have looked at the driver updates. I am not up on all the tech stuff yet so please bear with me .I think I need a bit more help. It says I should insert the installation disc. I have four cd's and am not sure which One I should use? My pc was set up by another person. I would be really grateful for any advice and help. Thanks again. Patti

one thing you might want to do is just uninstall your modem and let the computer re-detect it.... uhm.... shouldn't need to update drivers i don't think..... but i know when i installed SP2 my sound card mysteriously stopped working, so i just uninstalled it from the device manager, let my computer re-detect it, and it has worked fine ever since....

here are drivers for the Aztec v92 modem in case you need..... http://support.mpccorp.com/apps/filelist.asp?ID=7767

(if u have any questions or not sure how to do this you can send me a message :) )

Thanks :-) Would it be possible for you to give me 'step by step' instructions on how to do the whole thing. I'm not sure what i'm doing - but learning fast lol. I would be very grateful. Many thanks. Patti. :)

To Zenworks. Tried to reply to ur mesage but got a gateway time out :-(
In answer to ur question I know something of add/remove but i'm cautious with doing this with my modem... Thanks for your reply :/

to remove modem, go to start, right click my computer and go to properties, then the hardware tab, then device manager.

click the plus sign beside modem and it should show your modem there.... right click and uninstall then a new button should appear at the top of the device manager page if you hover your mouse over should be "scan for new hardware" and then your computer should re-detect your modem....

Thank you SO much :) I will get back to you and let you know :wavey:

cherrypie 12-06-2004 02:42 PM

good luck :)

(btw you may want to double check the outside physical connections just in case, i mean phone lines don't exactly come loose too often, but if you have a pet it could have chewed the cord.... i know..... my best friend's puppy chewed almost all the way thru a cord once)

pattih 12-06-2004 02:54 PM

Line connection is ok :) I can dial in and out ok. I also checked the modem cable, all seems ok there. Thanks Cherry pie. Once again, thank you for all your kind help :)
