New Case / Mod Project

Time for a new project!

I'm going to build and slightly mod system from the ground up and document the steps for all to see. This project is not going to be an ALL OUT modification, it's going to be more of an introduction for people that are interested in building a nice looking system but don't want or know how to go all out.

I will be using EXPENSIVE parts but the method is the same for any system. Also, if someone wants to use this guide to build the same kick a$$ system, then this guide will be the roadmap.

So check back often because I estimate this may take about a week to finish.

PARTS LIST
DFI LANPARTY UT NF3 250GB Motherboard
AMD64 3400 CPU
1GB OCZ EL Platinum Rev2 (2x512) Memory
200GB Western Digital SATA Drive (x2)
OCZ PowerStream 520 Power Supply with adjustable rails
BFG 6800GT OC Video Card
NEC DVD-R/CD-RW
Koolance PC3-420BK Water Cooled Case
UV Lights (x2)
UV Fans (x4)
UV PET Sleeving (Red and Yellow)
Chrome PET Sleeving

I think that's everything, if not, I'll update the list.

NOTE TO ADMINS:// I MAY HAVE TO DOUBLE POST BECAUSE OF PICS SO DON'T FREAK OUT.

also, good idea cikotic. plus its educational, so i dont think the admins will thrash you too harshly.

omegatotal 01-16-2005 09:43 PM

actualy no, and i dont remember the movie, guess i should go rent/watch it again?

Jason425 01-16-2005 09:50 PM

that's interesting.. figured those OCZ's would be top of the line.. go antec!

Dragon 01-16-2005 09:53 PM

definitely. i doubt ill ever buy anything else.

omegatotal 01-16-2005 10:11 PM

im stuck on antec and some pcp&c (if i have the money's)

partofme1337 01-16-2005 10:15 PM

Get an X-connect 500w its modular, for your popwer supply. And get a dual layer burner. Also the xconnect is extremely clean looking so you dont need cable covers, its already uv ready.

partofme1337 01-16-2005 10:15 PM

You can see my system with one i have a good uv set up so check out the link in my sig

Jason425 01-16-2005 11:38 PM

the neopower is modular too... pcp&c is prob ultimate but so is the $... I doubt it's twice as good as my tru430... but it is twice the cost!

Dragon 01-17-2005 12:58 PM

partofme1337, maybe you should use one of those pics as your avatar, scale it down a bit and... BAM [like emeril] youve got a picture!

Jason425 01-17-2005 02:02 PM

 talking about emeril in a case mod forum is ridiculous...

now, what would be really ridiculous, would be talking of doing an emeril case mod.

later

Jason425 01-17-2005 04:10 PM

OMG that'd be awesome! make a case out of a watermelon or something.. and throw a banana in there .. then pour in fruit loops!!!

At any rate, a food theme is intriguing.. but would probably lead to a weight gain as every time you look at your comp you'd get hungry! :P

Thanks for the idea dragon. I took one without the side on.

CiKoTiC 01-18-2005 07:38 PM

Project is on hold.

I ordered some red heat shrink from SVC and received the wrong size. Reordered the correct size and received an email saying they were out of stock.

The two front fans will be out of sight so I'm going to go ahead and mod those and get them installed. I'll post pics soon.

Dragon 01-19-2005 09:52 PM

neato

CiKoTiC 01-21-2005 08:16 PM

I keep getting errors uploading pics. Dunno what to do but abandon this thread.

Jason425 01-21-2005 11:21 PM

lol... www.imageshack.us ...

CiKoTiC 01-22-2005 12:30 AM

Jason, please don't fubar another thread by posting useless crap.

I'm getting pretty tired of coming to this forum and reading this stuff.

Keefe should rename this entire site to... "Jason's F*CK you FORUM".

Jason425 01-22-2005 02:12 AM

cikotic go lick some ass ... I gave you a piece of advice because you are too stupid to upload an image.. go pms somewhere else... [/tired of crybabies..]

StinkyMojo 01-22-2005 02:31 AM

you are turning this [/insert here] too rampant! MAKE IT STOP!

Jason425 01-22-2005 11:24 AM

ok [/stop] :D

CiKoTiC 01-22-2005 05:43 PM

You should be banned permanently for that Jason.

so far so good, keep it up man...

Dragon 01-23-2005 10:14 PM

well.. im not sure how many people would sacrifice honor for happiness... but since theres no choice... keep it up CiK! nice choice for a case too, and without 425 here to bash it, this oughta turn out pretty sweet!

F1a5hP01ntX 01-24-2005 06:32 PM

That case is pretty sweet... are those fan controls built into the top? Also, I like the fans.

Thanks. :)

The controls on the top of the case display the case temps and (CPU) water block temps as well as control the radiator fan speeds. They do not control the front or rear fans. However, that gives me an idea!!! I can add either a 5 1/4 or 3 1/2 fan controller to the front for those fans.
/me starts combing the net for a cool rheobus controller!!!! :)

I currently use the exact same fans in another system and they look amazing. That's why I decided to stick with them. Not only are they two tone UV reactive (red and blue), they have quad LEDs in them.

I received the chrome sleeving and yellow and clear heat sink today from SVC. The only thing that's holding me up is the red heat shrink I ordered from performance-pc which I should get in the next few days. I'm really eager to see it because it's made by acryan. :)

CiKoTiC 01-27-2005 05:51 PM

Major set back today. The OCZ Powerstream power supply does not work.

Getting an RMA for it. If successful, I'll sell it on eBay before I put one back in a system.

Any suggestions on a kick ass power supply are welcome.

omegatotal 01-27-2005 05:54 PM

PC P&C or antec's

CiKoTiC 01-27-2005 06:42 PM

I think I'm going to go with the Ultra 500 XConnect. I like the modular design and most of all, I can pick one up at the local CompUSA.

StinkyMojo 01-28-2005 08:40 PM

that thing looks nice..

CiKoTiC 01-29-2005 12:18 AM

I finally have all the major components in now. The only thing left is the UV lighting and fan bus controller that should arrive early next week.

I forgot to put the temp probe on CPU Water Block tonight but I'll fix that tomorrow.

I have some pics that I'll get up later after I transfer them off my camera.

So far, I'm very pleased. It's looking real good! :)

Dragon 01-29-2005 12:31 PM

I love FrozenCPU. what kind of fans are you planning on using?

StinkyMojo 01-29-2005 12:59 PM

only problem about them is that they are a little pricey.. but other than that they have a great selection ;)
