The stuff came like 4 months after doing some "video conference" thing .. that I didn't actually do because I tried to do it but the date had past.. but they sent it anyway..

So... Is it worth learning?

i think its worth learning, cause it gives you an easy way to learn basic programming syntax and ideas. but as an actual production 'language'? no, i'd rather use somthing like C++ or Java (note that i know neither of those languages, though i have taken 2 semsters of VB classes). if you want to script in ASP.NET its pretty good too, but use PHP, its more better (imo).

yeah thats pretty much what i told him too.

so for someone having virtually no more programming experience than forum tags, should I be able to figure it out from what's in the books and cds there?

/me and Flashpoint are in a class for that now. it is a joke. its probably the most high level language ive ever been taught.

you CAN.. i doubt you can do much though from those books.. they kinda suck.. there are plenty of nice sites I go to for tutorials and what have you. This is a nice beginner tutorial: http://www.maximumpc.com/how_to/reprint_2004-04-07.html

I am taking a class on it right now as we speak..Its fun to use i think it teaches you basic progamming concets which always helps...soo i say go for it its fun to use and fairly simple if you havent has ne programming experiance. "JUST DO IT" :nod:

exactly what i was saying. i think its a pretty good starting point in learning to program. i too say go for it. you can actually make yourself some pretty useful tools for yourself.

i agree. it is pretty simple and it is good for a beginner. as for the class i am in, i went through a semester of regular vb and a year of java at my home school. now i have to take a semester of vb .net which is a college class and i already know almost all of what we have went over and most of what is to come. as for java, it is higher level, but i personally hate it and i think it sucks. maybe it is just cause we were using bluej to write it. :/ to clue you guys in that don't know what bluej is... it is a java editor/compiler written in java. it has the most vague error messages ever and the worst memory leaks in computer history. and to give you an idea of how bad, i mean worse than symantec software. :lol:

thats where i started.... did some c++ and java after, but everyone has to start somewhere i think its a nice beginning point

i have the time i just cant find anyone to teach me.....

the internet is always there. thats where i've learned everything except for what VB i know.

FLASH - i don't know flash, but i know my skills lie in coding more that design, so i would shoot for ActionScript first, but thats me.

HTML - i learned most of it at http://www.htmlgoodies.com, but http://www.w3schools.com is great for HTML and JavaScript. they have good XML and XHTML tuts also

I have no idea about C# though, what is the diff in C# and C++?

PHP - http://www.zend.com/php5/abs/index.php is awesome. you can learn alot from PHP's online manual too, but it reads like, well, a maual. imagine that huh?
