speckled white bits??

I get tiny white speckles on games (like hl2) like its not colouring pixles with my 9800 XT.
Has the pixel shader packed up and also sometimes i get what looks like polgons heading directly into the middle of the screen.
Is my card packed up :( I've got the latest drivers and I've even formatted and flashed the bios any ideas??
Why did i switch from nvid at least with them I didnt have any probs
any help much appreciated

are you overclocked? you may have heat problems...

midimoose 02-23-2005 09:52 AM

nope, i was gonna but then this happened. Its running at 66 c which should be ok.

Jason425 02-23-2005 10:10 PM

66c idle? no... try underclocking (just to see if heat is the problem..) they may have done a lousy job with the paste...

thanks jason i'll try that, If not I think it might be bad ram I hope the warranty hasnt run out :( Does anyone know of a decent video memory tester ?

he said video memory..

Get Ati Tool and lower just he Memory speed and that might do it.. then try just lowering core to see if that's it...

midimoose 02-26-2005 10:32 PM

lowered the memory and the core, and ran 3d mark 03 and its ok untill it gets to stuff with pixel shaders in, so i think maybe the one of the chips is faulty and maybe hl2 pushed it a little too far. But ati email thing is down till 4th march.

Well, how are the temps inside your case? You really need good cooling for that card (which is much less than you need for the GF cards, 110C *shiver*). Do you have a fan in the side of your case blowing on it? Have you tried taking the side of your case off to see if that helps?

midimoose 02-27-2005 12:47 PM

Got a top fan, side fan and a fan at the back and my case temp is 24C, still get artifacts when the sides off but only on pixel shader tests. Gonna try and get another graphics card and see if it still does it with that, now i've just gotta get this damn thing out its easy to get it in but impossible to get it out.

Yea I know how that is... some of these new AGP locks are a real pain in the butt...

midimoose 02-27-2005 02:42 PM

YESSS!!!! fixed it  , you were right jason it was the paste, it looked like a 4 year old had applied it with a spade. It only took me half an hour to get the thing out the clip for the agp was behind the huge lump of the fan . Now its got some nice artic silver on and a good clean to get the dust off.
I should have done that earlier but I really didnt want to wreck it anymore by slipping and stabbing something with a screw driver. Thanks guys you can call me dense for not checking the paste earlier I dont care its fixed, you guys rule!!! :D

midimoose 02-27-2005 02:42 PM

Now to overclock it

Jason425 02-27-2005 05:55 PM

teehee! i've hit stuff with a screwdriver before.. scary I know, but I haven't broken anything (that way).. thankfully
