Stupid decision, especially with the AMD 64 chipsets. We just got 5 new Alienware systems here at work, and the funny part is that they were cheaper than the Dell version, which was a bit crappy. Dell lost us, because now the whole department wants the same system, a department that was hell-bent on Dell systems. Of course I was the main one that wanted to try the Alienware systems, and I won. Dell lost at least $40000 (or more) in buisness because of this.

Jason425 02-24-2005 08:51 PM

Dell doesn't care.. they get 100's of k's from noobs that only want cellys

gnogtr 02-25-2005 10:09 AM

That's true, which is why they're getting sued.

Jason425 02-25-2005 10:50 PM

no, they're getting sued for false advertising

gnogtr 02-26-2005 12:51 AM

I know. What I'm saying is this is turning ppl against them...Talk about stupid systems. I was going to get an Intel processor until I got my AMD 64, and now I'll never go back to Intel...I love my AMD 64!!!

Jason425 02-26-2005 01:47 AM

I have both (brother's is 64), and for my purposes, Intel (Hyperthreading) is better... if you're a "hardcore gamer" [read: no life :P j/k.. kinda..] then sure, maybe an athlon is for you, but Dell doesn't sell to gamers with the exception of the outrageously priced XPS, of which only a noob is gonna buy anyway...
and let's face it, even if Intel cpus aren't more reliable, the chipsets definately are....

i Think Dell just pulled a Big Blue. I wont be surprised if in two years they lose their market.

Jason425 02-26-2005 11:06 AM

lol.. you guys act like AMD is gonna take over as the dominant chip maker and that Intel is gonna flush down the toilet...

Tyler 02-26-2005 03:42 PM

Dell is doing fine, and I think they will continue doing fine with or without AMD :)

gnogtr 02-27-2005 02:29 AM

Well, AMD is slowly gaining a bigger audience. I do believe that Intel is going to be faced with a loss in the market in the next few years. Yes, Dell doesn't cater to gamers, they are more for buisness/personal use. I, myself, would never buy one, which is why I was so thrilled to get rid of the Dells in our office when we replaced them with Alienwares. Hell, even our head of department is going to get an Alienware laptop now. He is almost totally against Dells now.

StinkyMojo 02-27-2005 12:36 PM

Do you guys use Auroras?

Jason425 02-27-2005 01:33 PM

that's a pretty well off business you've got there gnogtr, to be able to afford alienwares for everybody... Dell may not win you any benchmarks, but their prices aren't as bloated as alienware either...

gnogtr 02-27-2005 08:46 PM

Actually, we got a quote from both Dell and Alienware, and the Alienwares were much cheaper, beating out the Dells by a few thousand. Sorry J, you're wrong!

Yeah, we use Auroras. They are SWEET!!!!

BTW J, we got dual LCD monitors, AMD 64 3500+, 1GB of ram, 160 GB hdd, Dual layer DVD writers, and Radeon 9550 video for $2035 a pop.

Jason425 02-27-2005 08:48 PM

decent... and oh no, my 425 shares of dell stock are so ashamed.. :/

gnogtr 02-28-2005 09:59 AM

I'd hope they were, they just got beat out by a much better computer for a better price. Muahaha!!!!
