This scares me
Ok, at my school they dont have bess, they have i think web sence enterprise or something ... anyway iv been using portable firefox for a while (just becuse i like it) even though the IT guy left IEs proxy settings open :P
anyway most of my proxys just stopped working and it was getting to be a pain to find new ones everyday, and since i dident really need them becuse I useially actuially work on my web sites in web design (the class hasent tought me a thing its just an hour i get to work on my forum / site / wiki) for a while i just stopped using proxys altogether. Well reasently i went to check me gmail account at school and what do ya know its blocked! So i type in Code:
http[b]s[/b]://gmail.com The next day Code:
http[b]s[/b]://gmail.com so i enter in some of the proxys and like the third one works, so again i si back in my chair and lauth at the infearior IT guy, i type in http://gmail.con (while using the proxy) and BOOM the blocker page appears, and i freese. HOW? how did it know? I thought once you where in a proxy everything you did was masked by the proxy?!?! WTF is going on? so i closed and continued on without checking my mail, but all my efforts from then on have failed at bypasing the filter. And im not asking how can i be cool and bypass the filter, i just want to know how did it know what site i was going to through the proxy? So I came here, becuse im sure someone can answer my question, thanx, smartkid[/i][/code][/b] |
they prob blocked the proxy
|
no, i could get to sites like goole and other unblocked sites, but the blocked site was still well blocked. Even through the proxy
|
They are watching you, it happened to me once.
|
Yes I know there watching me, they watched me at my old school to, but i think I know hows there doing it. I think they are forcing me through there blocker as if it was a proxy then through the actuiall proxy and somehow can actuially tell what im trying to go to.
|
them watching you is like cops watching you... it probably won't end up good.
|
Seems like they've got you ...time for a big reassessment!
|
RUN! :P
|
let them do whatever they want, its not aginst the rules to go to boards like this unless they block it. Its not illeagle to use proxys, and its not my fault i can get to my email using this: https://mail.google.com/mail
|
Nice link! I never thought of that... oh well, too bad I rarely use gmail and it's not blocked at my school......... :/
|
TY :) I was exparementing one day and found it

What's so wrong about checking email? In my school, the webmasters and school board are cool. Recently, they decided to 'unblock' most sites. That means we can do ANYTHING on the internet, except porn. We can go on AIM, check email, go on game sites, and go to sparknotes if you didnt do your homework. ;)

2nd of all I intent to be a IT Proffessional and I personially 1. need to know this for the day I have to defend it. 2 wouldent be a jankass and block simple email. 3rd For the typicle 14 year old I am smart. (at least with computers) 4th I KNOW im not the smartest guy around, you shouldent assume I think that. (real smart people dont jump to conclusions ) 5th and finially, yes I did lauth and the IT guy, and am still lauthing and that isent aginst any rules neither so I will keep lauthing as long as I please (even knowing that one day i might be the IT guy being lauthed at) PS: I also know I cant spell worth a crap  |

Hey smartkid...lighten up Dude...just messing with you...why not go make friends with the IT dude...you might learn more that way...maybe he will give you a gig on the side... |
I dont do anything for schools or a school IT guy anymore.
At my last school the IT guy there had came into my class to work on some computers that wearn working. I told him about me, my web site and we talked. He seemed nice and all and he told me I should learn linux, wich i had already had interest in. But at the time I had dail up and face it there was no possible way to download a full cd worth of stuff. So he promised to put a linux CD in my teachers box for me. So I waited, and waited and two weeks later I assumed he had forgotten (I knew he was a busy man) so i sent him an email just asking a few questions about linux and asking if he had toime to burn the disk. The reply offended me beyond words, in my signature on my gmail account it is ( S | m | a | r | t | K | i | d ) woch at the time i used as my sig for alot of forums. Well he had to be a smartass and in his reply change it to ( D | u | m | b | K | i | d ). And I was personially pissed. End of story he never sent the disk wich no longer mattered to me and I lost every bit of respect for him. But that wasent enuth, a school club had asked me to make them a site and forum, and I had worked hard to make them a forum and site. But soon found out that it was blocked (it dident matter to me, i could use proxys but it did matter for the rest of the school) so I once again sent him an email. And waited, and waited, and waited one of my others bad things is that im extremely impationt. So finially he replyed. I dont know what had happened but the way i was told they had gotten together and evedentily got with the schools lawer and decided it was at risk of a law sute, even though menny school admins had already been picked for it. Without notice they had canned the site and forum. Wich I put two and two together and came to the conclusen this is what they meant to say: "We dont like having a 14 year old student an admin, so were just gunna dump this and tell the brat its at law risk." Now I dont know if that really happened or not but I refuse to work on any more school websites, forums anything, and as far as my schools IT guy he can shove it. Now what I plan to do is at my fathers engineering job there are three IT guys, I plan to go there with him partly durring the summer and see if they cant teach me something. Now you can say whatever you want about smartkid, its just a name if you dont like it I dont care but dont imply that I am not smart, becuse your wrong. Now im tired of typing my life story thats really none of your businuss. Unless you know a way to fix my new schools blocker dont bother replying. |

If you want to be treated like a mature intellectual you could take responses like ours and your teachers' constructively. Maybe consider how condescending you sound. You're also sending a mixed message when you can't communicate effectively. Honestly someone at 14 who claims to be an administrator is kidding themselves. Unless you've had years of experience [~4 years] I don't think any institution would pay for you to be an admin. I'm not attacking you with this either. From the perspective of me, who doesn't know you, you should be able to support your presumptuous condescending name, or take our comments in stride as you know your own level of intelligence. You seem to be insecure with a name like that, and it shows when you get emotionally bothered when people don't see it that way. You're just asking for a fight though, and it's with the worst kind of people, other obstinently smart people. Either that or dumb people who are jealous. You don't have to advertise your intelligence. If you are it will show through. As for getting linux on dialup. You can get a copy mailed to you from linuxiso.com or something. I suggest you don't waste your time with linux because you will most likely be preoccupied with the functionality of a pretty desktop system, rather than learning from the ground up what unix is all about. check out a true unix variant that isn't all packaged for the pansies. just my 2c. |
it's ok... I was like that once... or maybe I wasn't... but let's just say I was. Now, i'm in an IT dept and manage lots of servers... at 19...
Moral of the story? TWL makes you successful in life. |

How menny people that you know thats are 14 can use photo shop? Probably alot. How menny people do you know that fully understands HTML that are 14? Maby a good bit (html is not hard). How menny 14 year old do you know that understand CSS, PHP and Java script enuth to use it? Still might be a good amount of people. How menny 14year olds can make 3D modles? how menny can run and manage a sucsessful forum? How menny know how to run a windows based server? How menny even know how to use linux? How menny know some C++, and some C#? Now how menny 14 year olds can do that, all that? If you know someone that can tell them they have earned the right to have "smart" in there username. (and yes i can do all that) Quote:

Just for fun and to reminisce, basically my body of knowledge consists of dabbling in windows since 3.11 & DOS days, taking apart radios and playing with them, old school phreaking when phreaking was dying, dialup bbs's, early internet gaming. I did a lot of activity on AOL's 'dark side' when the first photoshop came out, and similar types of groups. I did tons of reading. Technical specs, game confs/engineering game's to do what they shouldn't, bbs discussions, some early cookbooks and color books (if anyone is aware of those semi-obscure references), and manuals of all kinds. Middle school consisted of me playing with all the machines I could get my hands on, and usually me being a recluse in the library fixing macs for the librarian. I met my good friend that has been, and is still, running clanbbw.com. We ran a CS server in HS for a long time that was supported by the community we created. The forum has been up for a number of years now. In HS I had my first job [bagging groceries] and built a couple computers. During this job I bought a lot of networking equipment on ebay. Continued playing games through HS. Set up pretty big lans. Ran a CS server. I also studied to take the CCNA test, which I never did. I have used heavily just about every release of Windows except ME since the 3.11 days. I convinced my family to get an iMac 333mhz in the transition to HS. I got into unix through playing with Linux [very] briefly and learned of BSD and was instantly hooked on the BSD unixes. Another friend of mine started a web hosting business and I was part of the operation. Although it was not a success, as hosting was not the most lucrative business plan at the time. He had a server colocated at a nice facility, the hosting site was wlwhosting.com, and is no longer in service. He has since moved to wingedleopard.net, and wrote his own forum software thinktankforums.com. Myself and the two friends I am referring to, in HS bought a lot of wireless equipment so that we could setup a 4 house connection to the internet at different locations loadbalancing across 4 ISP's. That ended up working in a 2 point operation, but mine could never get connected because the distance was too large and triangulation was difficult without proper arial maps and/or a gps. I sold all my equipment to a friend. Check out documentation on this project: http://wingedleopard.net/lucas/projects/network/ "November 2002" In fact, I joined these forums techwarelabs.com/community/ a few months before doing this project. In Summer '03 I moved to SoCal for college and I've been here since. I haven't really done much with computers except personal custom things: http://www.projectdp.com/project/promo.html. I still have interest in the field, especially the security portion. The network stuff has depreciated with me, and I'm not too intimidated by most tasks regarding it. I've joined relevant groups that I try to visit regularly, 2600 la2600.org, oc2600.net, ivu irvineunderground.org, and such. I wouldn't say that I'm the man at any of these things but it is a part of me, and some of it is also my curse. So there's me. That was fun to recall. Quote:
Your example is not quite right since the main problem people have is that your name is claiming an arrogant/boisterous thing, when you seem to not live up to your own claim. Your claim challenges anyone who thinks being smart is something to be proud of, and you don't seem to exemplify that idea wholly. You have the pride part down. Quote:

This thread sucks. |
Why don't you share your tech background Tyler? I kinda like this thread.
|
I don't care for the pointless arguing.
Though as for me, I'm all self taught. No certifications or nothing. I did work at Dell for a day and quit because it was stupid, with a lot of stupid people. Oh and I did work at a computer store for a few months just doing sales and building, but I just don't like that type of environment. Otherwise I personally hate computer related jobs. Well of course besides TWL, but I don't consider that your typical computer job. I just want to keep it as a hobby, not go to work and deal with computers all day, and then come home and be on the computer for fun. Believe it or not I'm going to School soon to take police studies and I plan to become a police officer, something I've wanted to do since I was about 12. |

Societies need people like you  Otherwise, I'm interested in why people waste their lives with computer jobs if they hate them so much. If I hated any type of job I would quit and work to find what I like. Props to you for quitting Dell, that's what I'm talkin' about! If one sticks with it just because it's bearable, I pity them. |
Dell does suck... I work in a help desk and our company uses Dell and of course, they break all over the place. We HATE calling to get parts replaced...
|
That's because the good dell jobs are in India ;)
|
....
Those guys are worse... I had to fight them all week to get a monitor exchange... |
No.. I had to fight lol... 2 hours, 5 operators, and 100 dead brain cells later, I got no where. Turned out they canceled the exchange without telling me =/ So I'm just gonna do a return. Their support SUCKS! I have nothing against Indians, its just that their LACK of intelligence regarding their OWN products is quite ridiculous.

they're sending me another one... 8)

The biggest thing that bugged me though were the callers and their "problems". When some of them were easily fixed by saying "you need to plug in your computer first". I guess some people just don't have common sense haha, and it's stressing the hell out of the rest of us. |
two words: Job security

I wish I had to punt it to break it... the stand wasn't my main argument though... I basically just kept pounding that I wanted an exchange period.

Ok, xMerCLorDx I give up, you clearly have been arond alot longer than me and have more experence, The most impressive thing in your mile long post was the antina and the lan. Thats the stuff I want to learn to do. LAN, I can do on a small scale (i "only" have 4 computers). But I havent got the chance yet to ""toy"" with wifi yet.
If you really want to know a little more about what i can do you can checkout my forum ( http://htmb.stwebs.net ). |

If you want to know about my antenna setup. Basically I got two 8 foot poles, a chimney strap, a 20dBi directional antenna from http://www.fab-corp.com/, a d-link 802.11b wireless access point, and a PoE [power over ethernet] adapter, and a copper ground rod, some metal wiring to tie down the poles, and some eyehook screws for the roof and epoxy to seal. The problem with this setup was that I couldn't get any sort of good signal to my friends house, and the detection method was sketchy because I was using only the software on the d-link access point. It would have been better if I hooked up a stronger radio to get the signal, with nicer software that didn't have to find the ssid, and could look at all packets. As for the LAN, before I moved we had a pretty big lan with about 50 people. It was fun to setup and we had plenty of more ports to spare if only we could get more gamers to come. The power worked out alright and we had people doing kegstands on the rootbeer keg. It was sorta sponsored by nVidia, they gave us a package of stuff advertising their stuff, glowey urinal cakes [actually sticky pads that glow that you stick to a computer serving no function] and a poster or somethin. We had about 8 strips of tables lined up, and a 24 port switch at each table I think. Administrating it wasn't bad, it was kinda funny when people were seriously mad that some people outperformed them at games, they conspired to watch their screen to prove they hacked and such, which was not the case. If you're interested in any more details I'm down to talk about it whenever. I tried browsing your forum, it worked for a little bit. I was browsing the HTML section, when I went up to show the topics I got one of these: "phpBB : Critical Error Could not connect to the database" wtf? :o |

When I said "their LACK of intelligence" I was referring to Dell in general, not Indians. lol my bad.. should have put a period. See how small grammatical error can make things awry :wavey: |
